Long range shooting with an airgun: my thoughts (video)

Cool video!

What grain slugs?

Anybody serious about dialing elevation and making turret tapes should take a look at the Scope Werks turret. 2” diameter allows for uncluttered yardages and they’re tall enough to mark 3 full revolutions on the turret. To each his own, but these are just so easy to read, easy to adjust, uncluttered and give me yardages out to 250yds on one tape. Eric at Scope Werks is a great guy to deal with and an avid air gunner.

I'd love something like that but my scope is just too cheap of a model and there's none available. lol

Stoti,

Im shooting nsa 36 grains in .25. I am very curious about d-rigs lighter slugs, but havent been able to justify a retune These heavies shoot slower than i like but awfully well. Norm and i drilled out some nielsens to hit 32, 30, and 28 grain. The 32 grain went out at 890fps vs my 36 at 835. Significant but not sure i want to change yet.

ds- Next time you even think about another gun, save the money for one quality scope. You will be so happy you did!

If you love shooting long range as much as I do I must suggest the HHA Optimizer for crossbows. Way more range than scopes are capable of and you can keep your scope optically centered. It eliminates the need for adjustable scope rings to get the most range out of your scope and the need for the fancier holdover reticles. You can also run your scope at any power you want without changing poi.

You simply mark the yardage wheel at the given yardages just as the video showed to validate poi. With 18grn JSBs my 205 yard mark isn't even at half of the wheel range. So you should be able to launch slugs to unreal ranges with them.

Swish........thats insane. Is it truly repeatable?

I shoot a lot of long range archery, and have a single pin wheel sight like that that gets me out to 110 yards, marked by tape same as that one. Its highly reliable. But a 5 “ group at 110 with my bow gets me gitty. Whats your feeling on repeatability and group size? I can get to 300 with my nightforce between the reticle and turret. And frankly thats where the energy level is about done for my purposes.

Hmmmm your points are kind of hard to argue with lol. Ive already got so much on my gun norm and i are always joking saying ill need a wheelbarrow soon. Now that we are filming a lot each outing ive got a sideshot on the side of the scope, wired to a battery pack thats velcroed to the underside of the bottle, just in front of the bipod, which is ahead of the rear monopod. And in between is my cheekpad, which holds in the pocket a cleaning kit, all the necessary allen wrenches, and a lens cleaning cloth.

Whats one more thing? Lolol
