so I'd like to tear down my ruger Blackhawk elite for a couple reasons. first is for the experience and second to clean the factory lube out which I've heard is always too much. so I will need to relube and see moly lube is to be used on the piston seal. is there a lube I can purchase locally at say advance auto,Napa etc ? or maybe something I have on hand.

local lube purchase for springer piston seal?

You should use proper air gun lube. Whatever you do do not use a petroleum based lube in the chamber as it will ignite from the high temps of compression and damage your gun (as well as turn your airgun into a firearm). Hello. I see that you haven't yet received a reply. I am unsure of your location, so cant really comment on specific brands. You are correct, there is often comment about guns being over lubed. What needs to be considered is that manufacturers apply sufficient lube to protect the rifle as it may sit on the retailer shelves for some considerable time. Excess lube if often identified when a rifle "diesels" but in more cases than not, firing pellets will cause the lube to burn off. This could take a few pellets or s significant number - but the lube will nine times out of 10 burn off.
So getting to your question about the piston seal lube - I do lube the spring but I don't lube my piston seals in any significant way. The seals are manufactured of a material that does not require lube other than a very very light covering. Any grease is ok. The reason for moly lubes is that the steel absorbs the molly - but not the piston seal which is not made of steel.

Most of what is available locally doesn't have enough moly in them. Amazon carries a Lottie moly paste that is 65%, but it ain't cheap. It's the right stuff though. Don't do all that work and not use the proper lubes. You could damage your gun.

I tried to find things locally before I took down my first spring rifle and wasted a bunch of time driving around. Just order the correct stuff from Airrifleheadquarters. You will have it at your door in a few days.
