Howdy,

As I am getting ready for the upcoming NLR22 season, Squirrel Season, and overall good weather shooting I have noticed most guys that shoot dont have a place to shoot. If you are local and would like to get together to shoot on weekends or afternoons just reply in this thread. I encourage new airgunners that do not know much and would like to learn more about this sport.

I have a private farm about 20 minutes East of Springfield, MO.

I have all necessary equipment to fill your rifle, tune your rifle, mount a Scope, or even provide you with ballistic data for your rifle.

I enjoy all aspects of this sport and hope to see it grow in this area!

Always a good time getting out and talking airguns. I agree, good place and potential to be good fall squirrel hunting. I am going to contact the local MDC office and see what we can do to get a better camping site for next visit (if we decided on that area for the October get together).

That area might be getting a lot more squirrel hunting traffic than other conservation land. The amount of Mature Hickory and fruiting Mulberry trees with little to no squirrel activity makes me wonder.

Another great way to have some fun is dropping by local feed stores, hardware stores, and grocery stores in small towns during squirrel season. Talk to the employees and ask if they know of any squirrel tournaments that are hosted in the area. Around here (SW Missouri) it usually goes on around Fall and early spring, but I have seen some happen in summer as well. The stores will be approached by local hunting clubs, schools, churches, and other community groups that are hosting a Squirrel tournament to raise money for something they need. I have been in tournaments that will cost anywhere from $20-$40 for a 2 man team to enter. These are not just for airguns and my buddy and I are usually the only ones with airguns when hunting. The last tournament we entered was found on a flyer posted up in a Farm Feed Store in a small town near Springfield, MO. It was $40 to enter and a side pot of $10 big Squirrel $10 Small Squirrel (so $60 total to enter). This was in mid February and the High was 20°F with 10-15mph winds! Hard day of hunting, but it was a blast going from farm to farm harvesting squirrels and trying to keep our hands warm enough to feel the trigger on our rifles. We ended up getting 2nd Place overall and getting the side pot for Smallest Squirrel. We walked out of there spiltting around $320. Not bad for a fun day out chasing Fox and Grey's! Bad part was getting home and the Temp dropping to around 7°F and having cold squirrels to skin. Luckily I had my small hunting room in the basement underway and was able to process the game down there and not outside! I don't think my fingers would have survived! All of these squirrels were turned into jerky after about 14 hours if marinating. I'll post up the local tournaments I come across this year. If you catch them early they usually post them about a month or two beforehand giving local hunters enough time to sign up.
