Little Target Practice with the 97K before bed

Got some offhand practice in with my FT 97K before bed. Practice is really starting to pay off! I could barely keep it in the black a year ago. 5 shots at 10m:

Next 5 shots weren't nearly as pretty but its a 14lb gun and I'm small (and a few other excuses that I haven't thought of yet) so I'll take it still.

Does anyone else prefer to shoot at high magnification offhand? I find myself to be much more consistent at 50x than I do at 10x which seems counterintuitive to things I've read. Most people seem to be the opposite. Just curious to see if my brain is broken or if maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I typically shoot at 20+ yards. If the gun is balanced super well, I can make precise off hand shots (hunting) out to 50+ but at that range somewhere around 12-14x is my comfort zone, closer in, even less. Maybe 8x @20-30, 2.25x for a pistol off hand at those ranges. Typically I do not shoot off hand beside with pistols. I save all my focus for when I need to make a clean kill. But I'm also typically shooting pcp. With a springer, you HAVE to practice off-hand. In my experience, anyhow.

I usually do 25yds but its nearly 10pm and 20° out so I opted to use the basement range haha. Tomorrow is supposed to be nearly 50° though so hopefully I can get out to shoot.

10x is about where I'd expect to be comfortable too but for whatever reason my reticle gets really jumpy when I can see too much around the target.

Ah, there is a term for that.... Wish my memory was better. Basically, I've read a number of threads of similar topic. Red dots, high mag scopes. People shoot better with either. And anything I between. But the general conclusion is its all in the mind's eye. What it perceives is better, for whatever reason, is better. Do what works for you!

Nice shooting. Any trigger time is a good time in my book.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Several shooters in a league I shot in the 80’s + 90’s used high power scopes. Not me. To much shake. I think it boils down steadiness and confidence.
Glad to know I'm not alone. I'm practicing both ways to hopefully trick my brain and muscles to stop fighting each other as much

I need to practice regularly , use it or lose it type thing for off hand shooting otherwise i would have trouble with minute of barn .

Same here. Shooting definitely isn't like riding a bike that's for sure

Well Done!

Thanks bud!

I shoot my LGU at 50x at the standing and kneeling lanes at field target matches. I am just lazy and stick with the same magnification as sitting on my bum bag. I can get by and learned to get use to the high magnification. Positional Practice is definitely important to getting every point at a match.
