N/A Lightweight pcp for squirrel hunting

My vote is for the marauder in 25. I had Airgun revisions do his barn treatment to mine. Which he cut the barrel shorter, he did his SSG. I get four mags before it starts to drop. It is not regulated I shoot the Hades at 850 ft./s and it's a pure hammer and my go to squirrel gun. I run a moderator on it and to me not heavy at all with the synthetic stock and it's easy to put a sling on to carry in the woods. I have other air guns to hunt with a couple of notos, a P rod converted to a bottle by Airgun revisions. It's a very accurate gun with tons of shots but it's only 17 foot pounds which is plenty for squirrel. But my Mrod is my go to squirrel buster. It is so accurate and I've had guns that are four times its cost and don't shoot any better. I would look at Airgun revisions webpage and look at the shawty high power.

My go to squirrel getter is an old RTI Prophet 1 .22 compact. Short and light enough for getting around easy. Plenty of gas on tap to shoot 16 or 18 gr pellets.

Taipan standard or compact is another good choice.

Daystate Revere is nice. I have a .177 but wish I had picked up a .22 to keep all my pellets the same.

I have a Velox and while it’s a heck of a lot of fun, I’m not sure I would hunt with it. It’s not accurate enough to be confident of making a killing shot and I have no desire to wound an animal that ends up running away and suffering.

At 20 yards all 5 of my PCPs from $200 to $1800 shoot dimes and dime groups just the same, if they don't then its always been a scope problem for me.

Pretty sure with the Velox (mine at least) it’s a barrel and super inconsistent shot string problem. I have heard of guys running them tethered with a bottle regulator but that wouldn’t work for hunting.

Looking for one myself for squirrels as well. Debating between an marauder, avenge x or fx dreamline. Let me know what you end up with and why.
Personally I would go for the Dreamline. Have you seen a Daystate Huntsman Revere? They have been going on sale during the holidays for about $900 the last couple seasons.

I only own budget friendly pcp's, but every one that I own will shoot dime size groups at 30 yds. I only buy .22 cal, because of the wide variety of pellet options. All of them shoot JTS 18.1 the best except the Disco, it likes JSB 15.89. Lucky me....

Benjamin Disco
Barra 1100z
Umerex Notos
Gamo Urban
Pinty P-Force

All of them are a excellent choice for small game hunting, but i find the Barra a little long and heavy for extra long hikes. Just my 2 cents...

I think that 9lbs is off or maybe with a big scope, I'd highly recommend a marauder and better yet put a hill matched parts kit in it, best 50 sum you can spend ,I have one and its the lightest gun I own, I put a kit in from hill, left it unregulated and get 3 mags very consistent, it'll probably go 4 mags but I fill a little 500cc tank and top off after 3 usually
I just realized I didn't get the actual kit because im tight, I bought the same springs and transfer port then port matched the valve body and chamfered the inlet on the barrel to match the port but didn't go all the way through the barrel. I feel like i got simular results and saved cash .

I bought a .25 Marauder Synth back in May, specifically for squirrels...suburban pest control only. I shot number 107 yesterday (no wonder my deck is chewed all to hell). All have been between 15 and 25yds.

It's unregulated, Buck Rail moderator, Center Point scope. Standard tune, right around 800fps. My wife sez it sounds like a book dropped flat on the floor.

I typically get 3 magazines before refill...but with only one task, as long as it don't leak (never has) I usually recharge @ 2500.

Color me pleased. Note, I'm not humping it through the woods.

This is my sub-30-meter rodent gun. Not too lightweight but it's very compact. This is a .25 caliber but I have it tuned to 25 FPE. Considering differences in projectile BC's, this gun has very similar FPE on target at around 20-30 meters as my .22 gun tuned to 32 FPE at the muzzle. Velocities with the .25 caliber 25 FPE are much lower compared to the .22 and indeed, the .22 would do the job just as well... but I just love how efficient the .25 caliber is. This short gun gets ~80 - 90 shots on the regulator at this tune.

yes! this! i did the same with my huben k1 .25
tuned it for 30-31fpe at the muzzle with 33gr and i get around 75-85 shots as well. still smacks at 75 yards too.

Probably on the high end of what you would like to pay, but the Airforce Escape UL is only about 4 lbs and can be dialed down for small game or dialed up to almost 90 ft lbs for those other adventures. American made, parts readily available, and you can watch the Airforce Outlet store for discounts. I have carried mine many a mile at the WMA and taken squirrels to hogs. It will shoot pellets or slugs accurately with either the .22 or the .25 cal barrels. Just another option to consider:)...

Hi all,
What would be a good lightweight starter pcp for squirrel hunting? I don’t want to sink a ton of money right off the bat into this. I am debating the komplete and put a tube on it so I can fill it that way. High end I have looked at avenge x carbine and zelos. For me starting out that is the high end anyways. Just curious what you all would recommend? I hunt with a Mountain Cur so I put on the miles hunting which is why light is a nice touch.
You ever decide on anything? If not and you want to go real cheap, I have a Hatsan flash 22 and it shoots crosman premier hollow points and the gamo Red fire well at 40 yards, the most room I have for testing at the time. Hatsan usa has refurbished for $130 right now, they aren't worth trying to tune in my opinion, it is light and good enough for squirrels at 50 yards and can hand pump with a $50 vevor pump tho, better yet I seen a refurbished umarex origin on ebay for $211

TalonP, hands down.

Pinty bull pup beeman comodor regulated
I second the Pinty Bullpup. It's quiet, very light, and only 28 inches long. A good set of CVlife pic rings(good set, not the cheap see through 7$ ones) just to be safe. And you will be all set. Mine is dead solid money at 40 yards(my max shoot distance). And it's mouse fart quiet. I think they got the rail issue solved from the first imported batch when I bought mine...and then, it wasn't on them all.

I use my pair of long since discontinued benjamin discoveries or my fx dreamline tactical compact for most hunting(im exclusively hunting pigeons and ground squirrels for the time being). The dreamline tactical folds up nicely into a backpack case for a woods walk and can reach out just past 100 yards with pellets, the discos are light and nice to carry on a sling and great for 80 yards and in(for me).

My benjamin marauder 25 is heavy and chunky/long enough it just sits in my office at work now for the occasional pest shot. It's good enough to do the work, it just wouldn't be my 4th choice out of the collection for the job.

My best advice is buy once cry once. Buy what you really want and you'll be happy.... Or build a massive money pit collection like me 😂

Sorry I had an old guy brain fart. I read Pinty and first thing that popped into my head was the AirForce copycat pcps. I know the Bullpup models have far less issues than the rifle and AF versions.
The new release Pinty tactical single shot rifle is improved over the 1st release rifles. Outta the box, my trigger right at 4.5lbs, very very accurate, no scope rail issues at all, and will knock squirrels outta trees with authority using 18 grain pellets. I and my rifle and like JSB and JTS ammo.
