Lighter Glass

Crusher here are some lightweight scopes for you to check out...low end and high end. My favorite? The Nikon 3-9x40 Target EFR! It has a target dot reticle and with the flat trajectory of the .177 you really don't need a holdover reticle...even a plain duplex reticle is fine. This Nikon will actually focus all the way down to five yards and CRYSTAL CLEAR! You can shoot ants of a blade of grass at five yards with this if you want, or flies at 30 yards! For $189.00 you can't beat it! And at 15.7 ounces it feels like you have nothing on.
Good luck with your search, Chuck

Love this thread. Light and short are what I'm looking for as well.

Interesting so many like the Leopold 3x9 EFR. I actually have one of these on a .22 RF. I prefer my air rifles for squirrels instead of rimfire these days.

I've been wondering about this Air Rifle scope thing. I'm not much interested in shooting past tree squirrel hunting ranges (20-50 yards most of the time). I may be overcomplicating things by thinking I "need" 3x12 or 2.5x10, etc. . I've been thinking I need a Side Focus as well but maybe not? Even been wondering about FFP (which I have no experience with).

I don't own a fixed power scope but I remember owning a Fixed 6 when I was in college. I'm sure it was a cheap one but I really liked it.

Roy, Since you already own the leupy, I recommend you move it to your Scout and give it a try. It will lighten your setup for easier hunting carry, and offers plenty of magnification for your anticipated target distances. The side focus is cool, but I'm more interested in keeping it light. I'm not aware of any other scope that has the leupold Merits, with a SF.

Same here Chuck. Dad's Lever action 22 with a 4 power scope was all I needed.

One thing I didn't mention about my scope needs. I'm looking for something light, but it also has to have a large enough objective that I can see it. I've had cataract surgery and lens replacement. It makes it somewhat difficult to get a good clear image on the smaller (under 40mm) scopes for me. I know the glass is very clear on the Vortex that I have. but I find myself searching for the center dot because it is 40mm (the minimum for me). I love my Swidewinders (56mm) but obviously I can't put something that heavy on.

I really appreciate the info guys.

I am pretty biased to good glass, Swarovski makes the best glass us regular humans can afford, blows the american company away.....I really think they are a bit over priced.....brand L that is.

Look at one of the Z3 series scopes, better then brand L, for about the same money. If you try one of their scopes you will think that the L branded scopes should be on sale at Kmart next to Tasco.

"Kitplanenut"Crusher. I’m jealous. Been going to order me a new .177 wildcat but have just been putting it off until the xmas shipping madness is over. Think I’m going to go with a target dot Leupold. sylvan

I am not sorry one bit that I ordered the 177. Man, this thing is great. Just got 94 shots over the chrono from one fill. :)

I did find something I think is a great fit, scope wise. Bought the Bushnell Engage 4-16x44. Very light at 20.1 oz, glass is very clear. Even better than my Sidewinder. The crosshair is very fine and I find it very easy to plop it on the target and squeeze. The turrets are smooth and have the same lift to unlock feature the Sidewinder has. The mag ring is nice and smooth. This scope is an excellent fit for the Wildcat.
