🔶 Light Hollow Point Pellets — What's Out There?

🔶 Light Hollow Point Pellets — What's Out There?

So, I've read and watched some hollow point expansion tests....

What I'm gathering is that the HPs need to have a certain minimum speed in order to open up at all.

Most tests don't even get into that, they shoot their ballistic material with 32FPE a foot from the muzzle.... 🙄

Anyhow, I'm wondering, what LIGHT WEIGHT hollow point pellets (under 15gr) are out there [edit: .22cal]

.... I see mostly 18 grainers, now the 16gr Hades.

(The standard Crosman hollow point is light, but doesn't open up unless fired at blistering speeds, so no, that's not really a "hollow point" in the expanding sense.)

Thanks,

Matthias

Haha, guys are still talking about slugs. Like you said Matthais, slugs on the brain. Back to your question, the only legit HP pellet is the Crow Magnum. I can get them to shoot great in .177 out of a choked LW barrel. I have them in .22 and .25 and they don’t shoot that great out of my guns. Good for under 30yrd shooting but not much more. They are essentially a flying ashtray. Now I have a tin of H&N Terminators 16.36gr in .22. I can’t remember how much effort I put into testing them. The tin is really full so either I didn’t try them or they were so bad that 2 shots out of each of my .22 guns scared me away from them. I would classify most pellet marketed as hollowpoints more like dimple points. A simple wadcutter does more damage. When you hit something with a Crow, you know it.

Frank, yes, your Flying Ashtray is the one that interests me most of the heavier HPs...! Its cup is enormous.

However, I was more looking to lighter pellets for lower power settings.

So, thanks for all the suggestions and links, guys! 👍

Summary of lighter (less than 15gr) HP Pellets, so far:

Crosman Piranha 14.39gr -- this seems to have the same tiny hole as the regular Crosman HP and the rebranded Benjamin Discovery -- this is NOT expanding....

RWS Super-H-Point 14.2gr -- I have seen many tests where the head just breaks off because it sits on such a dinky thin neck... -- so no expansion

Crosman Destroyer 14.3gr -- YES, this is a good candidate -- very wide cup!

I wonder why manufacturers don't make HP that are lighter...?

Frank, yes, the wadcutters are already on my shopping list!!

Here is my selection of HP .22’s. The Excite is only 13gr. I just weighed it. I know none these shoot out of my high power .22’s. Might turn on the lights and shoot them out of my WeeRod or my 2240 bottle gun. They are both 650-725fps guns.

Thank you all for your comments! 😊

Tomorrow I'll be hunting for some light hollow points and wadcutters — surveying the VAST selection of pellets that my city of 10 million offers to an airgunner.....

➔ Last time I was in one of the biggest gun stores of Peru that also sells online — and I had the "choice" of around 25 pellets in .22cal (including all those from the "junk"-brands like "Industry Brand")....

PyramydAir, last time I checked, offered over 100....😄

God bless the USA!
