LGU first impression.....wow!

She came on Wednesday, and only had time for a few chrony shots. Smooth cocking and shot cycle. JSB 15.89 doing 640 for about 14.5 fpe. Opened her up this morning and couldn’t believe how much grease was packed inside. Full degrease, quick polish of the spring and comp tube, new moly on the piston and a smear of maccari tar on the spring and now she’s pushing 16-17 fpe and still has a fantastic shot cycle. Tested 10 different pellets so far and all but 1 was under 1” at 30 yards with a 10 shot group. 2 being at 1/2”. The trigger will need some attention but other than that I’m beyond impressed

If not mistaken, there is even a paragraph in the manual about shooting the gun a number of times to let the factory grease / oil deplete. That translates to dieseling and it is not good.

I took mine down, day one, and cleaned things up. Put Krytox in the factory lube's place and never looked back.

I don’t think 10,000 shots would have depleted the amount of grease packed in. I was shocked when I opened it up

I bought one in .22 about a year ago...they were scarce then, they seem to be getting scarce again. Were I a dude or dudette lusting after one, I would not procrastinate.

Mine was rock solid and extremely accurate right out of the box. However, after a few hundred rounds, it began to twang and vibrate. I used Tune In A Tube for the win. After it did this a couple more times, off it went to Motorhead for the permanent win!

When it came back, it was even smoother than before, and so much quieter! I've never been trigger picky, so whatever the trigger is on a rifle, that's what it is! So the LGU's trigger doesn't bother me...but it does slightly to a very learned friend of mine who has shot it. Oh well...iggerance is bliss, as they say. Doesn't bother me.

These are VERY fine rifles. I am fortunate to own the Big Four of Underlever Rifles...the LGU, an HW97K...Diana 460...and the TX200. I'm only talkin' about the big four that are commonly available now, were we to consider those of the past, then it would be the Big Four of Some Other Number, I'm certain.

My parting words...if you want one, buy now.
