Leupold ruined it for us. My compromise

You mention Weaver V16 but didn't sound like you were giving it a current consideration. I've purchased several scopes recently, notably the V24, Bushnell Elite 6500 (24), Discovery Hd, KonusPro 32, and Discovery Compact 12. Also have an Argos ffp 24, Aztek 25, many 4200's, 2 V16s, and several Leups, including 2 EFR 3-9s. By far, the 4200's are my favorite but NatchezSS is selling the V16 and V24 for $360ish and the 6500 for the same. These are Japanese glass and manufactured. They weigh a pound or less and the glass and mechanics beat the snot out of any of the Chinese offerings. Not sure why they are not more popular. They are 1 inch tubes, if that matters with the smaller adjustment range that goes with that but what GREAT little scopes!

I would rank the above in order of my preference:

Elite 4200, Elite 6500, Leups, V16, V24, Argos, Aztek, Discovery HD, KonusPro, Discovery Compact.

Crazy how time changes things. Technology moves so fast. I can report after receiving my new scope yesterday, the ON SALE priced $189 shipped scope is JUST AS GOOD or better than my old amazing Leupold Vari X III every was. And that scope cost $550 back in 1999, when I bought it.. That is the most honest, and best review I could give it.

But I won't leave it at that. I will try and get some photos to post later.

I highly recommend this Leupold scope based on the OP's criteria.

I have one on my .25 Taipan Veteran Shorty.

Mark AR MOD 1 4-12x40mm P5 Dial w/ Adj Objective, Mil Dot Reticle.

  • weighs 15.2oz. on my scale
  • will focus closer than 15 yards
  • super clear glass
  • turrets have crisp, precise clicks
  • 12.1 inches long

Here's a look through the scope at 12 yards.

Crappy hand held phone picture. Not scope cam.
