Leupold and Swarovski Optics

lol yep thats definitely an solid and affordable option..What are the Argos with the 50mm objective?

Although a great scope in almost every way, the APRS2 reticle isn't the best one for hunting in this 4-16x scope, because even on 16x it's pretty thin and the dot is very small, on lower powers it gets hard to see. If this scope had daylight bright illume that would help but it doesn't. This a large part of why I sold mine.

The Argos line of scopes are two steps down from the Midas line which is the scope talked about above. They are okay, and get the job done, with lots of pluses for the price, but don't expect great glass, etc, after all these are $400-ish scopes.

I don't have a suggestion yet but I'll try to help out later, gotta go.

Let's get some parameters to shop by.

What's the most $ you are willing to spend, as you can guess, upping your budget is going to keep you the most satisfied? Do you like duplex reticles/plain reticles in general, or can you tolerate holdover reticles? Want illumination? The most weight you can live with? Would you rather sacrifice low magnification or higher magnification if you had to choose? What is the most frequent distance you shoot at most, or do you shoot inside 15 yards much?

So far the only scope I can think of that would have most of what I think you'd like, as well as having the best glass in this price range, is the Tract Toric 3-15x42.

I can go up to about $1200 if needed, not saying I want but if all the boxes were checked I would-not sure it exists though. Parameters would be sub 20 ounces, 44mm OB or above, and I like a fairly plain reticle but but would live with some reasonable holder lines or something like that. Could care less about illumination on this gun, i have it on my Dreamline Tac and it's very cool in that application but I can live without it on this one. For my Crown I am more concerned with a wide range of use, from hunting small game to using it at the range. But likely wouldn't use this gun much below 20 yards. Does that set some perspective?

Yep those are what I was after. A scope that I think would be awesome for AG's, and which is twice your budget, is a March 3-24x52, I like the FML T-1 reticle but it's a busy one.

I'm not familiar with all the scopes out there, and I haven't even seen a Tract yet, but I have read of people owning them and they like them, so I'll stick with that suggestion for now.

There's a gap right in your price range for quality scopes designed for hunting that focus close. Like someone suggested already, that Vortex mentioned was designed to meet that need.

I've been badgering about certain gaps, and scope features, over at SH forum and other forums for years, and the scope Co's take notice, but it takes years for them to design and bring a product to market. I wish Athlon would "listen" to me, both sooner, and a little closer. Hint-Hint

It's crazy how political some forums are! I literally got banned !!"immediately"!! after mentioning Athlon optics when the Co first came on the scene, both on the yellow forum and on long range hunting. IT's like I was colluding with the Russians or something, lol. Sorry - I had to get that off my chest.....

thanks appreciate all your feed back! I ordered two of the tracts to see how they are, I will ultimately return one if they fit the bill. I ordered the two different size bells, 44 and 50.

Which Vortex are you referring to?

Got the Tract 3-15-50 today...there is absolutely no way I can let this scope go. Leupold is coming off tomorrow. While they are both optically similar, I still love Leupold Glass, the functionality, weight and overall fit and finish of the Tract scope is as good as any Swarovski or Leupold I looked through. Great recomendation. Only challenge it presents is the with my rings, their's aren't quite high enough to clear the cartridge for my Crown so I am going to have the FX no limit ring sprayed. I needed to know the color and called Tract and they called me right back thought it was a great idea and gave me the color match. So great optic and great service too!! I wouldn't hesitate to get one of these in your hands to try, very impressive overall and i am super picky. If you can't already tell!
