Leupold 4.5-14 AO

Justin,

Yes, I have two older 4.5-14 AO's that I had TS32X1 reticles installed in. I use them on mild spring guns (HW30, R7, and HW55) without any issue. They do focus to 25 yds. and you can see clearly even closer if you turn the magnification down.

The reason for using these scopes is back in the day when I had the reticles installed, few other scope manufacturers offered any kind of Christmas tree style reticle and Leupold offered to install these reticles in existing scopes (of which I already had two) through their custom shop. IMO they are great for many applications, especially for guns with loopy trajectories and as teaching aids. My wife and I take our HW30 and R7 camping and teaching my wife windage and elevation holds with these scopes on similar guns makes it fun. When shooting at soda cans at long distances it is much better to say "hold on the 12 and two dots left" than "hold on that pine cone right there.....no, not that one, the one next to it.....no, the one next to that one".

That reticle is nice. I’ve read a few posts about folks who’ve sent scopes into Leupold’s custom shop. If you don’t mind my asking, what do they charge to install a different reticle in a scope that you already own? Is that a glass-etched reticle?

Justin, that's just crazy! Exactly what you wanted! Hope it works out for you.

Ezana4CE, It was around $175 and yes, it is etched glass. Leupold's custom shop was supposedly closed for remodeling (I think is what they told me) but they seemed closed for a long time and I never checked back to find out their status.

I've spent quite a bit on custom Leupold reticles because I already owned the scopes which had only plain duplex reticles in them. Seems today there are quite a few more reticle options from other manufacturers of air gun scopes than there were before.

A quick update. I received the scope and got it mounted last week. Shot the rifle a little Friday and again on Saturday for probably an hour or so. It will indeed focus below 25 yards, and as r1lover pointed out, probably 12-15 on low power. It's zeroed at 25 yards now, when I get some decent weather, I'll run it out to 50 yards and work on hold overs. I really like it on this rifle, the magnification is good as is the size and weight.

Thanks, Justin
