There is probably a short water/oil trap in the commonly bought together section. I would put that on the pump and then put the fill whip after the filter. I filled my water/oil trap with desicant to trap more water. Put filters over the holes in the trap so the desicant does not get trapped in the holes and clog them.

I THINK it comes with one. Is that what the little red thingy is on the connection end?

The little red part is just a cigarette style filter. I bought a larger one about 4" long that has a cigarette filter on the "out" end and small round filters on the "in" end. I filled it full of desicent that I had left over from a hill hand pump.
