Lesson learned / will be dealt with

Having had a pet coon as a kid and admiring their intelligence, athleticism and dexterity, I prefer to not molest them. However they are also such gluttons that they sometimes damage my feeders, actually damaging the heavy wire varmint guards around the spin-caster. Then, as you say, it’s game on and sump’n gonna die! Thankfully they're smart enough to cease and desist for some time after they see a buddy murdered while practicing thievery/vandalism; so I don't have to kill them very often.

The frequency of such cycles seems to roughly correspond to racoon population density. Just like lab-rats and humans, heavily concentrated populations create criminality.
