A while back I ordered a "made in Ukraine barrel" for my Leshiy from AirgunHeaven. I had wanted a .22, but they were "out of stock", so I went with a .177 instead. Pretty good price at €98 (~$116USD)
Life happens and I didn't get around to trying it out until today.
The “Standard Classic Leshiy” is made by LW? and the .25 barrel I have mics at 0.468" OD. The .177 Ukraine barrel mics 0.466". Take the measurements with a grain of salt, as he micrometer I have is around 35 years old and isn't digital..so reading it is probably only as accurate as my old eyes. ;-)
It could also be the 350mm .25 barrel I have is not a true Edgun LW barrel..it was purchased used as part of a package, so its origin is unknown. True Edgun LW barrel are listed at 12mm == 0.472..though the Edgun Shop lists them as 0.47..so IDK.
Maybe someone with a digital micrometer and good eyes could "mic" a known Edgun LW barrel?
The 0.002 makes a difference in feel when inserting/swapping barrels. The .25 LW is snug and the Ukraine .177 is definitely looser. Snugging the barrel nuts takes more turns than the recommended “bottom plus a quarter turn” when installing the Ukraine .177 barrel.
I only shot at ~10 feet in the garage with a wobbly hold but all 4 pellets were touching..kind of a micro clover leaf. Can’t shoot further here in CA for the next few days because of a “winter” storm. LOL..Yeah, it never rains in California..
The POI of the 4 .177 shots was left of the .25 scope sight in. This sort of makes sense as the barrel is pointing 0.002" to the left of center based on the OD diff of both barrels. This assumes the lock down process captures the barrel by pushing it against something..
Not sure if the “Ukraine slop” will cause issues other than POI. I don't know enough of how the Leshiy barrel is secured. Obviously, a certain length of the Leshiy breech contains or holds the breech end of the barrel, but I don't know anything about the barrel mid-point lock down clamping mechanism. If there is slop at the breech end, my mind tells me that the lock-down process might push on the Leshiy breech in a way not intended by the designer...
Maybe someone that knows how the lock down process works..or maybe Ed..will chime in. Am I over thinking it? Wouldn't be the first time. LOL
