Leshiy .25 slugger

I have a bunch of undersized .25 slugs that are designed for choked barrels. My TJ barreled guns hate them. The other day I found my original SPA P15 .25 barrel and my wheels started turning. It was an accurate pellet shooter once the crown was fixed but the leade was cut too deep so I had to seat every pellet by hand. I though well there is my choked barrel, what gun do I put it on to burn up some of these slugs, hopefully. I decided to cut it to 350mm and turn it down to fit my Leshiy. It likes NSA 29gr slugs with the reg set at 110b and the HS 2 clicks under maximum speed which is 800fps. The only drawback is the gun is violent. I think I would need to clamp it in a vise to see its true accuracy potential.

I would really like to get a good slug barrel for my Leshiy. I think it would perform very well.

I do not feel your Leshiy is efficiently tuned for what you are doing. The reason it is so violent is because you have the HS set so high and you're just blowing air. Raise your reg up to 130bar and then you should be able to get a more efficient and less violent tune somewhere in the 15-30 CCW clicks from the lowest setting.

you know you can double stack the extensions, even triple stack them I suggest a longer barrel. I have a client that made a slug gun out of his Leshiy, I suggest a 550 MM barrel

I was hoping for a lazy mans tune. I wanted to be able to jump right back to my pellet barrel without touching the reg. I have 2 really good tunes at 110b in .22cal with the 250 and 350mm barrels. But you are right, in .25 pushing a 30gr slug, I need to up the reg and start over. I can touch 3 at 50yrds then I get a flyer. Death gripping the gun isn't cutting it. I will set the Huma at 130b and report my findings. I'm sure I can get a good tune with .22cal pellets at 130b also. I should have known better. Thanks. Oh I forgot to add, at 110b, I am at 19 clicks CCW and 50fps below max velocity.

I'll be curious how the temperment of the Leshiy changes with the tune.

I totally misread your HS mention. I read you had maxed out the HS setting, rather than you getting a max fps and then dropped back a bit. Unless you are concerned about losing the 20 bar with upping the reg you might find 130bar a nicer setting for your .22 pellets as well. I have the .22 350mm barrel and with the HS I can easily go from JSB 15.89 @ 700 fps up to JSB Monster 25.39 @ 830 fps. I do have the DrozdPCP air tube add-on and when I set the JSB 18.13gr to 900fps I am using up about 2.5 bar per shot (IIRC it was ~5bar per shot with just stock air tube).

Just got done messing with the gun. The marks on my reg are off so I had to degas and disassemble quite a few times. Thank goodness the Leshiy is a dream to work on. Right now I am around 135b and with the gun tuned to the knee, it’s 40fps faster but still pretty wicked. One thing I noticed in the 2 years that I have owned a Leshiy is as you start the tuning process, the gun is a sweetheart until your velocity starts approaching the knee. Then the gun starts getting angry. I decreased the HS two more clicks to put me at -25fps from max. I will test again later today. I think when I get the gun to noticeably calm down, I am going to have the dreaded velocity spike and larger ES. We will see. On a positive note, it’s still accurate with that China barrel.

Here are 2 50yrd groups. On left is this morning after filling. On the right is this evening after filling and taking one click out of HS. My flier is always my first shot. Not sure if it’s me or the gun after a refill. I think it’s me adapting to old jumpy. The gun feels a little better but I think it also sounds a little softer next to my ear. Leshiy owners know what I am talking about. My reg is at 135b according to my shot string and the OCD part of me wants to back it down a little more. Might degas it in the morning and try for a 125-130 setting. Depends if it drives me nuts while I am at work tonight.

I cut the leade for 28 and 29gr slugs in .249 and .250 diameter. Fortunately it liked a 29gr that I have a good amount of. I have a good many VK slugs that I would like to shoot but I would have to alter the leade to accept them and might risk screwing up my accuracy with the 29's. Guys worry so much about the choke when they venture into slugs, that's only part of it. Your twist rate and more importantly your leade will make or brake a slug barrel. Leades cut for pellets don't always jive with slugs. I am going to leave the gun alone for a while and see how it does. I mainly pack the gun to my stands in hunting season and thought it would be more deadly shooting slugs. Would have preferred .22cal but I don't have any donor barrels laying around to try. I don't volume shoot my Leshiy so it having a low shot count and expensive diet is no big deal.
