Lelya vs Tiapan Short

I’ve decided I need a short and quiet “truck gun”

Between the EDgun Lelya and the Tiapan Veteran short which is quieter in .22 and .25 caliber?

Is the Lelya in .25 quieter than in .22?

How does the Leshiy compare sound wise?

All in stock form and tuned for similar power.

I should have stated originally that I’ve owned a .22 veteran long and currently pcp wise I have a Vulcan 2 in .22 with a custom shroud I did and a Tatsu on the end. Also, I don’t want to have to add an ldc to make it quieter.

Thanks for the input.

Steve

I think we all got a little bit sidetracked, to include myself, in regards to what the OP was originally asking.

senglish011,

I think it's hard to compare .25 and .22 in the same platform tuned to similar power/FPE. .25cal = Bigger barrel, bigger FPE unless one tunes it to lower FPE.

In your post, you also asked about the Leshiy. Totally different airgun. I think Leshiy owner's will need to chime in here to give you their opinion.

Hepotter, thanks for the response. What fpe was your “factory dead quiet” Lelya 2.0? I’ve either owned or shot the Veteran in all 3 lengths so I know how quiet they are. I’ve never shot the Lelya or Leshiy so your experience with both helps. I had read a couple of times the Lelya was loud, so I wanted input from someone who had both. Thanks!

Again, looking for something short and quiet. I don’t mind tuning it down to achieve that. 18-25 ft lbs is plenty.

Also, I wasn’t sure if I wanted .22 or .25 if I went with the Lelya, keeping the things I’m looking for in mind.

I know the Leshiy barrel can be swapped, just not sure if I want the single shot.

Everyone else thanks for the input.

I'm curious too @Hepotter. I've never thought of Edguns and "factory dead quiet" . Is that compared to a gun with something aftermarket like a DonnyFL? Those things are what I call dead quiet. Never heard an Edgun that was dead quiet. So was wondering what "factory" dead quiet was and in relation to.

I’m a bit confused reading that the EDGun .25 requires frequent cleaning. Where did that myth come from? I’ve owned an R5M, and it didn’t require cleaning any more than any other LW barreled gun. Maybe once every couple of tins at the most? Just curious... ;)

You know, there are few reasons for such a statemtn from my side :)

1. People are very unpatient with the new gun, forgeting to take into consideration that one needs time to get to every new guns, though they are all the same. That is like cars, when you sit in a new car you need to adoptize yourslef to it, to handles, to the view from the seat and so on. It takes time. So, when someone has some accuracty problems, mostly generated by unpatience, that is enough just to make the ritual of cleaning the barrel, and what a miracle -- it became better! :)

2. The barrels, new barerls always needs to be cleaned a little bit often, in spite of the fact that all barrels from LW, which are made based on the special specifications, are honedб that rule works with them also.

And for the sound level, the best test is the test when someone is listening to the sound being few meters out of the gun, to compare.

I have a Lelya 2.0 on the way and Brian from Edgunwest is sending me the 1/2 x 20 unf baffles/adapter to use with my LDCs. Should be even quieter. I'm really hoping! Based on what I read from others who use their DonnyFL's with the r5m/Lelya 2.0 it really does, and I know it will look different with it being offset but I'm interested more in it being quiet as can be when I need it to be and regardless if it will not win a beauty contest.

I've owned the Taipans for a while now including both Mutant and Veteran shorty versions. They have been truly Trouble free like I hear about the edguns. I'm looking forward to the Lelya and having fun seeing how it rates in relation to my Taipan mutants and vets. The Taipans had a better entry point ($400ish) in cost of ownership out of the box with quite a few awesome and unique features like the anti double loading pellet feature, and access to hammer spring tension adjustment with simple turns in the back of the action without having to remove the stock. etc. But I'm looking forward to the forward cocking mechanism in a compact rig although it lacks "mechanical advantage." Also I've found the cost of the adapter /baffles to allow simple use of screw on moderators to the shroud to also be higher in price and complexity due to its alignment with the offset design compared to the Taipans that simply use a more affordable option that's easy to buy and use which is a unf adapter sold by several places (also 1/3rd price of EGW unf baffle adapter.) I'm happy EGW offers something to make it work because Donny doesn't even want to try and put something together for us to use, I'm guessing because of its complexities. Again this is all comparisons based on the cost of ownership approach. I'm sure my mind will change its direction once I hold the Lelya in my hands and start shooting.

Oh and I'm interested in a plastic stock for the Lelya at some point and hoping we can have this option too. The plastic stocks will be cheaper than the wood stocks as was shared in one of Edguns videos that allows one stock for both r5m long and collapsible to be used on the r5m standard. That is innovation at its finest! The new plastic stocks will also have a compartment in the hand grip for wrenches, etc. Big shout out of praise to Edgun for coming out with this. Cheaper 👍, lighter👍👍, and even more innovation for compatibility with other rifles is 👍👍👍

both rifles are built to last.... both are adjustable.... both barrels are very accurate.... trigger, taipan wins.... taipan have anti-double feed system..... lelya have a very efficient transfer port........lelya have a great looking stock.......i think taipan is about $400 less......i have had rifles of both brands and i dont have any negative thing to say....

RJGTA,

Nice looking rig! I also have Taipan 22 vet shorty and love it for squirrel hunting. Been looking to ad Leyla 2.0 in 25 to use for squirrel hunting, I would be very interested in your thoughts regarding performance of Leyla 2.0 as compared to your taipans. When ready please share. Of course I don’t think I could ever part with my Taipan, just looking to add another quality gun to collection.

Beach-gunner

Beach gunner,

I had a 22 veteran shorty too and traded it off. They are one of my favorites - All time. I think it was easier to trade off knowing in my mind I could get another Taipan and I would always be one of the lucky ones with the lucky barrel and gun that's trouble free. I never felt the need to be a lucky one or get lucky when I bought my Taipans. I've always been confident they would all be great and to this date after owning 4 they never dissapointed in the performance area. Small bemishes from the factory here or there but very minor. They've never disappointed in the performance or quality especially in the field.

I'll report back to you and let you know about performance of the Lelya especially in squirrel hunting where quick follow shots can make a difference if they are on to you.
