lead BBs in rifled barrels

I have several airguns, pistols and rifles, in .177 caliber that will shoot pellets and/or BBs. I will not shoot steel BBS because I don't want to damage the rifling. I'm thinking about trying some lead BBs but no one in my area stocks them. I can order them but was wondering about BB size shot for reloading shotgun shells. Are they the right size for a .177 caliber gun and are they precise (round) enough to work? There is a gun shop near me that probably has them.
