Late season squirrel hunt with R5M and Arken 4x16 scope

Hi Well I decided to get out squirreling with my New Arken scope I had got , I mounted it on my R5M 22 and I lowered my hst to shoot lighter 27 gr slugs about 970 fps , I zered gun at 50 yd ,I usually shoot much heavier slugs , so I actually had to write me a cheat sheet up to 200 yards , while zeroing my gun at 50 yards I shot at my 2 inch steel spinner , it was 2.1m to hit center of my target at 109 yards ,

So me and Titus went out and being with a bit of snow left on ground I can see a long ways , We got 5 squirrels total in about 2 hours , All shots were between 50 and 130 yards , I have to say The Arken reticle grew on me , the more I shot it the more it just felt great , I really have to admit , I love this scope and for the money is is even better , I usually save up and buy the best glass I can ,So I was very skeptical with buying this but I saw Doug here got one and it caught my eye so I got one too,

So now for bad part of hunting , I was out there a few hours and decided to come in , I was walking and I fell and ended up in hospital , I lost feeling in my legs , bottom line I think a nerve hit hardware in my back and I had problem I have issues in winters here with cold , seems like when I got older all my old injuries and surgeries are taking a toll on me ,

I got to go in Wednesday for an injection in my stomach to help with pain , Wish me luck LOU

yea battle wounds catch up with us , daniel yes I own all edguns , I love them for 1 simple reason , They are durable and shoot well and they have alot of power ,I actually like their triggers for hunting , they are fully adjustable , but if you like a very lite trigger like taipan or fx , they not this light , but to tell you truth , I am a hunter , I own fx and taipans also , and I actually make them heavier , I set all my guns in the 2 to 3 pound range , and as far as power ,

are you a hunter ot target ? and do u shoot pellets and slugs?

R5M LONG 22 cal up to 69fpe

R5 25 SUPER MAG , 85FPE

R5 30 CAL SL UP TO 100FPE

SO THEY GREAT WITH slugs very efficiency and always work fine

That is quite a lot of power! What slugs do you favor? Do you use special slug barrels or the stock choked barrels?

I'm mostly a hunter but I enjoy target practice to hone my skills. I have a Taipan Veteran in .25 that does about 55 fpe. Shoots NSA 26.8 gr. almost as accurately as JSB Kings. They are the first slugs I've had good luck with. My go-to hunting round is Predator Polymags. Love the accuracy and expansion. I was originally looking to get a long but a standard model showed up on the classified and I grabbed it. I like the shorter guns for the heavy woods and brush I often tramp through. Was looking at R5M in .22...again the standard version...not the long.

I like a crisp trigger...it doesn't have to be super light, decent shot count, reliable magazine that isn't a bear to load, robust gun...that doesn't shift it's POI at every little bump.

22 cal , mp 34 gr ,then hn 30 gr , then 38 gr noe

30 cal 52 gr accurate ,then 48 gr accurate then nsa slugs

25 cal mp then nsa ,

Not bragging but i have dropped them one time I dropped one down 20 stairs onto cement patio , It had a pm2 scope on it , I aimed at my 110 yd spinner and it still hit center ,

I have total faith in them , I have only one gripe and it is probably me , as I have some hand issues , I would prefer if the edgun had a lever cocking where it added leverage like the taipan and fx , I can say the mags are good , they deep and quick to load , and they cheap , I myself like alum ones better with slugs as I tune mine to my ammo , but with pellets plastic is great , It is not hard to load like say a cricket or older fx , if this is what you mean ,

cocking system on r5m has a lever on both sides , works fine with pellets but with long slugs requires a bit of effort due to no leverage , but I am a slug shooter with my 22 and 30 cal ,

now I have a 25 cal lelya I use for low power pellet gun and it is fine cocking all accurate low or hi power , I got over 13 coyotes last yr with 22 and 30 cal , none with a 25
