Late season GS Hunt

Hey guys, took a few hours to head out to one of my favorite spots to hunt ground squirrels.I have been doing so much Jackrabbit hunting lately that I had felt a needed change of scenery and game.I had arrived at about 7:00am with it being very foggy and overcast around 70 degrees. The area is quite high up and does offer some good opportunity for natural GS terrain with a good amount of hiking. The area is very popular to hunting such as Deer,Coyote and even Bear and Turkey.Back 10yrs ago the area was where several well know hunting journalist had written some blogs on trophy ground squirrel hunts, since then the area has been heavily hunted.A very few pockets still offer a look at what once was one of the best GS hunting areas in the state. After a 3mi hike I finally arrived to the valley that always offers a good amount of action, plenty of rocks, logs and tall grasses.Almost as soon as I arrived I could see them running around, scurrying from hole to hole and peering up from behind logs.I picked a spot under a giant Oak tree to sit, watch them, and to take some shade as by this time the fog had burned off and it was 83degrees.The view was amazing so I took a bit of time to look around and take a few pics of the area, even had my lunch under the tree that later I found had Ant problems..haha The holes I was seeing were all around 75yrds away spread several feet apart with some rocks and logs separating them.I shot two that were moving around at 45yrds with solid headshots only to have them fall into there holes. The other 5 were all at 75yrds near a fallen log, usually either next to it or climbing on top to sun themselves. After about two hours of sitting, shooting and waiting I managed to connect with 7 of them with only one recovered with a headshot. The area was indeed great and offered me some good hunting and even what you might call a trophy, until again here are some pics of my adventure.
