Laser guided PCP

interesting info from Jamie Hyneman (of Mythbusters lore) about a company making non lethal defense guns for law enforcement. Check out the comment at 3:12 about them coming out with a laser range finder attachment for the gun that varies the output of the weapon to deliver the appropriate force. Think of the implications for our world using different pellet weights, slugs etc for hunting or target!

(grin_reaver thanks for the info on the vid posting)

Good info. Yes, I can see the "smart" rifle adjusting the power behind the pellet based on distance. This can help flatten the trajectory of flight and help maintain the same aimpoint at many shorter distances.

I am not a hunter so not sure how useful is adjusting the retained pellet energy at the target, but I can see that it allows more versatility of using larger caliber pellets on smaller prey and vice versa... smaller caliber pellets on larger prey.

I dont know if I would want a gun to do that. I mean its great something like that for law enforment/millitary, but hunting? I think it takes all the sport out of it. I left powder burners a loooooong time ago. I'm just saying, we live in modern time's, we don't really have to hunt,. We can get everything we need from a grocery store. I see people "hunting" from "blinds" which look like little cabins, that you just drive up to. Then the deer come out to eat out of the buckets of corn, or lick the salt, thats been there all year long. Then take a shot, load up the deer on a atv, send it off to the butchers. Now add a laser guiding system. At some point its not even hunting, all the skill is lost. Hunting isnt just "the shot". Stalking game, studing there habits, finding there natural feeding areas. Thats what it is about. Long range shooting is hard, but shooting deer/elk with a .50 cal or 338 lapua from a mile away, laser gudied. Might aswell use a drone with laser or satelite guided missels.
Again for the intended purpose of the laser guided non leathal weaponry, I think thats great. Its about time law enforcement stops killing everyone over running red lights.
