lapses of judgment

i had a double feed and jammed mag on a vulcan3hp .30cal. to fix it, i degassed the gun, took it partly apart so i can get the mag out. the self cast slugs sat very tight, so i had planned to just shot them out. when filling the air-reservoir up again, i forgot to cock the gun, so the pressure went straight to the barrel and build up behind the slugs until they shot out and punched holes in some shelved plastic containers with electronic components in my workshop. it was not high power, but enough to do quite some damage. lesson learned and another proven, never point the gun at something you do not want to accidentally shoot.

Target Forge used to sell a swinging target for golf balls. I still have one on my "know your limits" target stand but rarely shoot it for the reasons already highlighted. I think I had fewer issues shooting it with my 177 than I did with bigger guns. There are also lots of 177 pellets buried in it. Still best not to shoot the darn things.

I was lucky once working on a gun I thought was unloaded. I shot a door jamb in my house. Could have been much worse. A dab of caulk and a little paint and the mistake vanished.

I had a Hatson Factor BP and on that gun you could unscrew the bottle under pressure as it had a valve...well...the Vulcan 3 doesn't. I was unscrewing the bottle on the Vulcan and I think it had about 80 bar still in it and boom! Bottle launched through my wall. Brain fart from hell, I know the damn thing needed to be degassed, was just used to the Factor BP. Still can't believe I did that

For my springers I'd been using a duct-seal pellet trap for years with no concerns, no problems.

I was doing some velocity testing on my first PCP and didn't fully appreciate how much more powerful they were.

I had the PCP on a rest, carefully aligned with the sensors of the chronograph and was surprised when the 5th shot blew through the duct-seal, two layers of 3/4" plywood and left a neat, .22 caliber hole in the cabinet door! 😳

There's a 1/4" thick steel plate attached to the back of the pellet trap now! 😁

Cheers!

I used to tune in my kitchen by shooting through a tube chrono I’d set in front of my gun vise and shoot out of my sliding glass back door 13y to the door, 18.3 to the first feeder. 25 to the second and 42.5 to the 3rd and berm. I learned that if you accidentally bump your gun as you shoot the projectile will skip off the inside of the the chrony tube….. and blow through the aluminum frame and two 3/16 “ panes of door glass. That’s one. 25.39 fx pellet at 960

2. never forget to bleed the fill whip. Whip they do and teeth they shatter.
