I’m a little confused over this anti Chinese manufactured scope bias. I can remember when most Americans felt the same way about Japanese cars. I can even remember my Dad pointing at Japanese cars in the late 60s and 70s and calling them “jap crap”. Now look at them, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, etc super high quality.
I have two Japanese scopes. A Vortex Razor HD LH, retail $1100, and an older Sightron Big Sky, retail around $600 (not sure exactly) Both scopes are very good high quality super clear glass scopes, especially the Vortex.
I’ve set the Vortex side by side with a “Chinese” scope, the Athlon Midas TAC. And also side by side with a Nightforce SHV that belongs to a friend. Both the Vortex and Nightforce retail for a similar price and the Athlon $300 to $400 less.
Bottom line, there is no difference in clarity or contrast between the three scopes. None. Perhaps, just as the Japanese did 45 years ago with improving automobile quality, the Chinese are doing now with technical manufacturing, including optics?
Just my 2 cents.
PS. All three scopes had better clarity and contrast than the Sightron Big Sky.
Oh, and one more thought. I haven’t heard anything about scopes made in the Philippines. Yet at least one high end scope manufacturer (Vortex) makes some of their scopes there. Ask yourself, which country is more Technologically advanced, China or the Philippines? Yet no anti Philippine scope bias? Things that make you go hmmm...
