Ken Hicks .. I have a question ??

Hi all

I keep seeing this this name when it comes to Daystate Red Wolf's , I hear that Ken is the guy to talk to . So my question is , What does he do to the Red Wolf , I know this sounds stupid, but as the gun is run by a computer , what does he actually do . I saw a video the other day of a guy shooting 100 yards with his Red Wolf and the groups were outstanding to say the very least and Ken had worked on it . I have a Red Wolf and to be honest its bang on accurate but of course we all want that "extra" bit . What does this gentleman do to make it even better ? I have a RAW TM 1000 Sub 12 and a guy in the UK called Kev Genders basically makes it the Target rifle for HFT that it should be , I get that but dont get the computer side of things . Am I missing something .. Dont forget .. I am from the UK .

Thanks in advance

Understanding the gun parameters would be key here, bit, voltage, pulse length, timing etc.and then how to make the best of these via the programmer.

Each gun is set up individually by DAYSTATE and the parameter values are all slightly different to get the very best out of it.

However owning 5 RW and having seen many, many more shoot at Pete's AGF I dont think in Sub 12 you are going to gain anything in accuraccy over what your gun will offer now, FAC is different of course.

Perhaps a very slight tinkering of the parameters to get a specific pellet that you shoot, to a very specific velocity as some HFT people do, to get performance at the longer ranges, DAYSTATE can do this for you if you send the gun to them but still keep it sub 12.

I recommend speaking to ken. Yes he has become a RW wizard , and each tune is gun specific. My RW is from Ken and it’s a Lazer out to 100 yrds and it sips air and has power. There are things he cannot share just like any tuner but he is very approachable so contact him.

What he said. I don’t want to speak for him. He is on here as a supporting vendor, so you can PM him, email him, or call him. He has always been quick to answer my questions.

Dont forget that it is ran by a computer, but as he has a programmer and is trained, so he can change that if needed. He will also provide you shot strings and info that shows how it shot and what it shot well. He could adjust the trigger I would think as well if you wanted.

We discussed distances I would be shooting, how I shoot, technique, etc and I purchased my DonnyFL from him, so he prepped it with the exact LDC on it that I would be using.

Hello, how’s it going?

Ken will shoot the gun, adjust, shoot some more, listen and watch, shoot some more, adjust some more, etc. He may polish some parts, adjust settings, tune electronics, adjust trigger, find the right pellet/weight and then he shoots it a lot to make everything work together for maximum accuracy.

Daystate does a great job, they just don’t have the time to shoot a tin or more of pellets through each gun to maximize accuracy like Ken. He is a master and knows how to make a gun shoot!

As other suggested, call Ken at SPAW. He’s a great guy who’s always willing to talk and share information, he really is one of the good guys. He’s not just a Red Wolf tuner either; Daystate, RAW, FX, Brocock, etc... He can tune most, if not all of them. Oh, and he’s a record holder, bad ass competitor, business owner, great guy and husband/ father too.

Like I said, I’ve talked to him many times about tuning guns, gun selection, general advice, he really is a cool dude that loves air guns and shooing.

I have no affiliation with him either! Ken is just a great guy and has left a great impression with my boys and I.

Hello all, thanks for the kind words! As someone stated its mostly reconfiguring the computer. Red Wolf tuning is 90% software 10% hardware. Oh and about 20 hours of trial and error. I am currently building a data base with every rifle I have tuned, consisting of base numbers and results, and altered numbers and results. Feel free to call, my number is on my site. Again thanks from SPAW
