AirMaks Arms Katran standard 22 power question

Hey all, so I'm tuning on a friend's katran standard in 22 cal with a tube and wanted to know if anyone can tell me a couple things. Im tuning it to shoot 21 grain javelin slugs, im currently sitting at 170 bar on the reg and im maxing out around 910 fps. Now, its shooting accurate, but shot count is not great at about 26-30 shots.

Now, I had been playing with it with 23 grain javelin and had the reg(on accident) at 200+ bar and at that was screaming the 23 grains at 970. I do not have a reg pressure tester, and since there's no gauge for the reg I am simply going off the speed starting to drop off which also goes in tandem with the shot sound.

Now with the 21 grain, it is following suit as when I drop the reg to 150 bar, speed falls to 880 or so. I really didn't think I'd have to push the reg that high to get the power up like that but it appears so.

Does this sound on par for power and shot count out of this platform? Would playing with the internal valve adjustment change much with power or efficiency? I own a katran compact in 22 so am pretty familiar with the platform, and in playing with power with that I could achieve 18 grain pellets at 865 with reg about 150 bar, so I guess I was expecting to be able to push more out of the standard with a few extra inches of barrel.

I had a katran L bottle version which shot 25gr at 900b I believe the reg was at 125b. I don't think you should need more than 125b to shoot the 21gr at those speeds. That's kinda odd

This one is the standard (15" ish barrel) so a bit shorter than the L version. But I agree it still seems excessive. I own an Evol 15" and with around 155 bar reg I shoot the same slugs around 950 fps. I kind expected performance comparable to that.

I thought so too, but maybe not.. @zerochance you have a krait standard .22 right? That one has a 60cc plenum, if I remember correctly you were able to make it shoot 21gr at 900 for about 50 shots shot? What was your reg set to like 140b?

Yes, my Krait Standard (400mm barrel) in .22, I am shooting 21gr H&N HP Slugs at 905fps. My reg is set at 125BAR and I am getting 45 full regulated shots from 275BAR down to 130BAR. If I fill up to 300BAR, for sure 50+ shots.
Thanks!

@Bladebum you likely, do you have to have the regulator around one hundred and fifty bar, but also play with the valve settings and see what you get

So sounds like the katran and krait standard share the same barrel length, is it possible the porting is larger on the krait? I feel like they should be similar enough that I should not have to be that much higher on the reg to achieve the velocities you are getting at 125 bar. Im almost thinking im losing air in the transfer port or something.

I can’t say unfortunately. I have never shot a Katran either. Sorry I’m not much help.

I appreciate you and all the others chiming in.

So based on some feedback here, I decided to play with it some more and got some interesting results. I adjusted the reg down to around 145 bar, first shot hit 905 with 22 grain pellets, then it steadily decreased until it settled to 870s no matter what I did with the hs. Took back apart, set reg at 160 bar first shot 911, then steadily decreased and settled in the 890s.

The interesting part, is that after the re air up the first shot every time is a very loud sharp air crack, almost coming from the action area, then every shot after sounds good. Except it does feel like there is a slight amount of air on every shot coming from action/valve area. There is only one o ring around the outside of the valve to seal the transfer port, nothing on the hammer side of the valve. Im almost thinking there is an alignment issue with the valve/transfer port but I don't know how to check that. Im thinking a call to UA tomorrow is in order.
