AirMaks Arms Katran Compact in .22 - oh Yeah!

Happy, so happy to share - Katran Compact in .22, oh Yeah! Will try to make this short. I'm down to just one pcp, the L2 350mm in .22. So, I convinced the wife to go from a HW30 springer to the PCP world. Watched the AN classifieds and picked up a fine excellent example of the Katran. Finally, between work, storms, neighbors, and mosquitoes ... just zeroed in with CPHPs. Oh my, this thing is on par if not better than my first pcp, Taipan Veteran 1 Compact in .22. Honestly, I passed really early on when looking at the Katran for my first PCP - odd looking tadpole thing with a potentially wobbly folding stock. I have come away with the same girlish giggly experience I had with my past Vet. I was practically stacking pellets! Now, can't wait for the wife to get out of bed and try out HER first pcp. The Katran Compact with the Optisan scope ... potent combo. I try to do most of my PCP outfitting and research right here on AN and buy in the classifieds for many reasons. Thank you AN community! Norm PS I want it for myself.

Report: Wife loves it. 💕 I can't detail, but she has vision surgery challenges past the majority of us at any stage in life could imagine and more to deal with that will come slowly. Thus, has to use the the lefty hold as naturally being right dominant. She is darn near stacking pellets too. First, shot was a bullseye! Extremely pleasing moments for the both of us. Next, she wants the kids that are still in the nest to shoot as well. We are all relatively private people, so will not be posting pictures of any of us shooting. Oh, while waiting for her to get out of bed ... 5 less pests in the backyard property. No moderator in use ... likely, don't need one. Fun training on how to setup and use the compressor too. Good times ... share the hobby!

Nice Katran! Awesome to hear your wife is enjoying the hobby too. Such a great gun and I absolutely love mine. I do like the looks of the tube version better than my bottle. Mine needs a good tuning(wasting air) but shoots so good I haven’t touched it. I was farting with mine last week and shot my best 30 yard group ever. Definitely some luck involved but shows what the gun is capable of. Mine and that 5 shot group from last week.

Utah might still have some on sale if you need one for yourself 😂🤘

Happy Shooting
Rob

25 yards, CPHP 14.3, bench with front bed pillow supports, wind likely under 10mph, but much lower when I zeroed for the wife. I don't recall how many shots taken. She learned that a black reticle on a black small target took an adjustment. Out of the family of 4, 3 liked and 1 firmly stated sticking with her Diana 34 (yes, teenage stuff). Can't shoot a pcp with a scope the same as a springer with irons. AN, I'm seriously consider letting go of my L2 to fund a Katran or Krait now. Oh, I'm steeling the wife's thunder in this posting. This is HER target and she wants to hold on to it:

Congrats! I don't know why the Katrans are not more popular, at least on the forum. They're relatively cheap. I think the reg issues from the Kraits was bad PR for Airmaks. I would not hesitate to purchase one again now. They are light, sturdy and accurate. I've got a .25 LB that just drills Heavy Mk II's at 60FPE. I love the smooth solid feeling actions and being able to cycle them easily with a finger.

Oh, yeah ... I have issue(s) with Airmaks and that put me off for the longest time, reg issues, and direct discussion from the top on their distribution treaties on a Krale sale fully available to US customers at the time. I absolutely said H E double toothpicks with Airmaks. I certainly made concessions as the Katran really is a perfect cross-over from the HW30 springer. The Krait was in the running for my next PCP after the Taipan Veteran 1 Compact.

Nice groups, especially for a gun you just started shooting and w/ CPHP.Try some jts 16gr if you have any. Those CZ barrels don’t seem to be very pellet picky though. Katran folding stock is super nice. Decent adjustment and locks up tight. Plus the nice magazine storage.

Have CPHPs in bulk from early on from the classifieds. Wife is not nor will have any part in pest control. The heavier and so-said better brand stuff I run for pests as they hold a special place for me. In my air gun experiences and parameters to this point, CPHP's get the job done for both PCP and Springers.

Whatever fairy, pixy, or magic they sprinkle into these CZ barrels continues to amaze this average joe. If I could get the pellet or slug into that past Veteran, it was useable on my property - mostly had huge variances in elevation. Don't know yet if that is the same for this Katran. No, I would not win an accuracy contest by any means ... just saying those CZ barrels are not picky and yet turn out some darn nice accuracy across the board. That makes for a lot of ammo options :)

Prior owner already had the Katran sorted for me with said 800 fps adjustment. No reason to crony as I 'hopefully' expected the results seen today with the CPHPs. Although, not disappointed that it is looking like no moderator needed - which is contrary to the vast majority of info I digested going into this purchase.

I really like these Katran folders. I would get the standard with the 480 bottle in .22 cal. It would be great to go in a backpack. it’s a niche I don’t really have filled in the Airgun category in my collection. I have several options in PBers that I really love that fold up and go in backpacks for back country predator hunting. Be nice to do the same for an afternoon hike for varmints. Right now I am taking my RTI P2 .25 which works very well over my shoulder because it’s pretty light and not all that long, but it can be cumbersome after a while.

Haha I feel the same every time I shoot my cz barreled guns. Sometimes it’s hard to even pick a pellet cause they all shoot more than good enough for my needs.
I’m going to have to tune mine soon. It’s definitely kinda loud. The valve dwell on mine is way too long. Big long sounding blast of air so it’s gotta be wasting air bad too. I know I seen a katran C tube for sell in the classifieds recently. It got just as many shots as my bottle, if not more lol. Might be your gun. So a good tune is key. Mines shooting around 23fpe.
I also got a Krait Lite Standard in .25 recently. It had a little issue and is getting fixed atm. So I never got to shoot it. Once I get it back I’ll try to write a post about it.
