Just sharing a quick pic

Here's me shooting at the field target match this past Saturday. My partner (standing) had the most BEAUTIFUL BSA R-10...

As you can see, I got first in my class. ;) (and last)

I'm pretty happy with that, though I would've been happier if the ol' TX was shooting near 12 FPE, rather than 9. Woulda helped a lot, as it was a windy day, and we were shooting out to 55 yards. Field Target class was limited to 12 FPE, but no scope limit. Hunter Class was limited to 20 FPE, but a limit to 12X for the scopes, and no harnesses allowed. I got a couple of great shots at 50, missed a couple at 10. (1/4" kill zone, and didn't have my hold-over perfect) 'twas a fun day out.

"JohnL57"FT will make you humble in my experience. Those close targets with the tiny kill zones are wicked indeed. Nice scenery!

Yes, humbling! They made the course overly difficult, because the world champion came and cleaned it last time, which ruffled the feathers of the guys who set the course. So this time, there was one target whose kill zone was completely obscured by grass for seated shooters, a black crow with black reducers, a squirrel that was mounted 20' up a tree on rickety pole, so it swayed in the wind... I'm pretty happy with 57, on that course!

Sounds odd to me to follow UK sort of rules with that 12 FPE stuff. Hellfire, my Winchester goes to something like 23.7 FPE. We've got higher-powered air guns over here...it seems useless to make things 100 times more difficult than it logically needs to be. Or harder than nature itself typically is. And no harnesses? Does that mean, no full sling wrap? Another silly idea to me. Common sense and rules must always go together, or they're just ridiculously hard for no good reason, in my opinion. Never make anything harder than it needs to be or is in nature.

Thanks for sharing. Field Target is the most fun you can legally have and greatly improves your shooting skills ( and at 9fpe your score says your skills just might be okay !).
Looks like a nice venue also and I know what you mean about HIGH angle slightly swaying targets, ...... I've shot a lot of course Brad Troyer layed out and when he set em tough they are!. Shooting an very high troyer rating ( above what would be allowed at a match) IS great practice for the big events.

Hope you can get the 12fpe thing figured out, I have a friend who uses one, he took 1st place hunter at a nationals a while back, I do recall he tried many set up before it was just right (11.8fpe with an o-ring and an original MK piston perhaps? ).

unionrdr,
U.S. Field Target has something for everyone, pick the class you like and you play by that class's rules. FT got me my first tiny bore ( .177) and I shot 20fpe hunter for a while then shot the 12fpe class for a while then just started using the same "12fpe) rig for any and every class. It is NO harder to shoot 55 yards at 12fpe than 20 (olr more) you just need polished skills and FT gives you that as well as meeting great people. You really should try to get to a shoot.

Well the tricked out 160 will be just fine! I've seen a by-gone FT shooter do right well with the QB copy in Hunter, also 1st or 2nd and liked to stand all the time. Now an A.I.R.17 ( I've owned a couple ) while cherry can indeed group well I'm pretty sure it wont hold a candle ( fpe wise ) to the lower powered RWS75's & such I've seen used in all classes. Certainly would be fun trying.
