Just Ordered a Yongheng Hardcase Compressor From WalMart

Here is some info on your new Yong Heng to help you out.

Edited and Current 3/21

Here is my standard post to all things Yong Heng hope it is helpful.

The Yong Heng "Simple" version least expensive does not have a water separator you need one.

The "Auto Stop" version shuts off near 3000psi probly not a good thing for most people.

So you likely want the "Hardcover" or "Set Pressure" versions your choice on the 110V or 220V.

Never start them under pressure. I should have put this in here sooner.

Give them a dedicated 15amp outlet 20 would be better. They draw a bit of juice on start up especially the brand new ones. Don’t Use an extension cord unless it is short and has an honest 15+ amp rating. Preferably 12ga wire so you will not have problems.

Keep them cool and filled with oil. ISO 46 may no longer be recommended although I used it for a year without failure. I am currently using the Husky Brand Synthetic or synthetic blend oil, found at Home Depot, for two years now without a problem. Top it off to the red circle in the sight glass.

Don't push your air fill past the compressor’s spec which is 4350psi. A little less is usually better than the max, and the Yong Heng should last for years unless you get a bad one.

I did my first oil change at about an hour, it was extremely dark colored. I went far longer, between changes, after that.

I have two YH compressors bought the second as a backup for the first as I, fergot to turn on the coolant pump several times and, overheated it until it smoked. It did not like it but it continued to run just fine. Still I did not trust it after that. I added a switched outlet, to the system, so it turns the pump on before the compressor will power up to keep me from doing that from now on.

The second one, my back up unit, died in about two months bad QC from the factory. Cost me $12 for a new second stage piston and an hours’ time to replace it. Then to add insult to injury I fergot to put oil in, the latest unit after I put it back together, and ran it for a couple of minutes without any. So I filled it with oil and it fired up and somehow still werqs fine. The #1 unit that I was worried about, cuz I overheated it so many times, just kept on filling my guns and tanks till I got #2 repaired and retired it.

I do not fill past 4200psi as when I do, all too often, I blow a burst disc. This may not happen on the first or second fill but soon thereafter it will.

The temperature sensor only measures head temperature so running it much over 20-30 minutes can overheat the motor and other parts even if ice is used in the coolant. Ice or a container of it, in the coolant, is a good idea especially if you are like me and do not use the full five gallons of water as suggested in the manual.

Keep your water supply level with the compressor to be kind to the pump and assure a good supply of coolant goes through the compressor.

I recently started using this Red Line water treatment after I noticed algae growth in my 2.5 gallon water bucket every few months. It seems to have stopped or significantly slowed the algae growth. I will know more in a few months.

Keep your moisture filters, guns and tanks being filled above the compressor to help keep the moisture out.

Purge the system of moisture, using the screw valves on both sides of the compressor, for a couple of seconds every five minutes while in use.

Change out your small YH filter every twenty minutes and set the old one out to dry and reuse later.

Add a better filter if needed to be sure more moisture and any oil smell is removed from the system. Many of us use this Tuxing three media filter although, if you feel the need, you can change media types at any time.

A smaller one will probly do for some.

Possibly a filter similar to this if humidity is high in your area and your desiccant filters have to be replaced often.

Bleed the pressure before you turn the unit off and let it run a few seconds to get the better part of the moisture out of the system. I have found that I blow less burst discs if I bleed before shutting down so I do this religiously.

Let the coolant pump run for a few minutes after shutdown to cool things off.

I'm thinking about just running a hose from the laundry tub straight through the coolant lines.

That would werq lots of ways of doing things.

Certainly true. I've found a 2 gallon reservoir and crushed ice controls temps very well. biohazardman has done some great work with other cooling setups. Many ways to proceed exist. Just find the most convenient method for yourself that works adequately. Hope it lasts a long time. Mine has.

I also got mine from Walmart and after I looked over the warranty they had the compressor listed as automotive parts warranted by Allstate insurance company. Anyway I didn’t think it was very good coverage since you can’t take it back to Walmart if there is a problem. You’ll have to send it back to the seller, which isn’t really Walmart, at your expense. Anyway you can cancel the coverage before 30 days I think. In the long run I could have picked one up on eBay for about $30 less. Live and learn I guess.

Indeed. The coverage might work well and be worthwhile, but might not. Another poster who shall remain nameless repeatedly stated that the Yong Heng was only a viable option IF the buyer purchased it from WalMart with the warranty. I wonder if anyone has used that warranty to see if it is even worthwhile?

Given that revelation I will probably get my warranty fee refunded. Still, the website states that the item can be returned to the store. Given WM's 90 money back guarantee, I still think it worthwhile that I made the purchase through WM.

Personally, I don't have a poor view of WalMart as some seem to have. They have what they have and people are aware of the quality (or lack thereof). People are also aware of their convenience, volume, and low prices. All relative, and I do buy from them. I cannot recall ever being denied a return by WalMart for anything faulty that I purrchased from there and needed to return. I'm just wondering about the particular verbage in the written warranty for this item and whether it is possible that WalMart MIGHT require that to be followed. I don't know as I didn't consider warranty when I bought my Yong Heng. I basically viewed it as a disposable gamble. A disposable gamble that hasn't been disposed of and is still hapilly topping off a large tank 2+ years later. All relative.

My Yong Heng compressor arrived on Wednesday. I finally managed to unbox it Thursday morning. After the required assembly and adding 11oz of Mobil 827 Rarus extreme high pressure synthetic compressor oil, I turned on the coolant pump, opened the bleed screws, plugged it in and hit the switch.

Nothing happened!

Removing the cover and doing some checks with my multimeter I verified that current was reaching the DPST rocker switch, but there was no continuity on one side of the switch. After checking for a replacement at Home Depot an finding none, I made a jumper for the neutral side of the circuit and viola', the little compressor fired up and purred like a kitten.

I don't have my SCBA tank as yet, but I drained the tank on my AVA and filled it to 300Bar. I wanted to adjust my regulator on the rifle and I also wanted to see how long it would take to fill the tank from empty. I failed to start a timer but it only took a few minutes to fill the empty 180cc tank to 300Bar. The cylinder head temperature never reached 30C.

My rifle also has held 300Bar pressure overnight so it looks like everything is copasetic so far. So far I am very pleased with the rifle as well as the compressor.

I haven't had time to even start my "non labeled" walmart Yonger yet. I hope mine doesn't do that and starts! I better check today!

I filled my FX Royale 400 yesterday on Yonger's maiden voyage. No problems. I only "ran it/broke it in" for a couple minutes filling the rifle from 160 to 220 bar. After a minute the bottle had settled to 210 bar.

Actually wiring the 125v circuit through a DPST switch is redundant. Household circuits only switch the "hot" side of the circuit., not the neutral. By putting a jumper on the neutral circuit inside the compressor housing I am not compromising anything. In fact, switching both circuits only adds another component to fail as it did in my compressor. I thought of ordering another DPST rocker switch, by why bother? If it ain't broke you can't fix it.

The main problem is: How long is a yard of elastics!

The output of a compressor is highly dependent of the exit pressure.

A YH is rated at some 30liter/min (at next to no backpressure and even hardly half that at 4500psi). Most prof diving compressors start at 70-100liters/min (and that is delivered air at pressure). There is a reason for the ten-fold price tag!

Say you measure the throughput of a YH at atmospheric pressure and then at 4500psi, those wont even be in the same league!

If you intend to fill one tank per week then a YH is probably fine if you nurse it properly.

Now if you go to 2-3 fills a week a YH will die young and there is call for a professional compressor. Not a matter of if, but of time.

Look here for proof of lies regarding compressors (low as well as high): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfjSm_ieRkE

And the high pressure compressors are the same, some (all cheap ones) are lying through their teeth, and when you go past roughly $2000 they tend to stay pressty close to what they claim.

There is a HUGE field of iffy compressors aimed at the PCP market. Only a select few are trustworthy and thay are expensive!

No such thing as a free meal, sorry.

If you intend to fill one tank per week then a YH is probably fine if you nurse it properly.

I am using my air rife as a "hunting tool" I will get by just fine filling my SCBA tank once a month after load development. (11 rifle tank fills at 50 shots per fill = 550 shots a month)

Even IF it wears out in 1 year as opposed to 5 for a $1500 compressor, am I really money ahead with the high dollar item? Never mind the fact that I CAN REBUILD THE YH for very little cash outlay.

So far I am impressed with the unit as long as proper usage is employed.

Enjoy your new YH, I do mine, 3 years and still chugging along. Don't mind some people, their glass is only ever half full unless they have the Rolls Royce of compressors, or tanks, or rifles. Many of us are content to get along with the Walmart options in life.

And some of us have been burned by the cheaper versions and decided to buy the more expensive ones. If you want to constantly have to rebuild or pray each time you turn it on it will work, then go for it. At this point, some of us would rather have the Rolls Royce and not a Yugo.

Well, the double end male Foster fitting finally arrived yesterday. As usual with Chinese eBay products, it didn't fit the male connector on my Chinese bottle hose assembly, although ut did fit in the Yong Heng coupler.. The bottle hose coupler did fit the male Foster fitting on my Avenger however. The OD of the double male coupling was 8mm exactly (.315") while the male fitting on the Avenger measured .311" A little quick "machining" in my 1/4" drill with a fine mill file soon had that corrected..

I had previously broken in the compressor doing a fill of the 180cc tank on my rifle so I hooked her up to my 60min SCBA tank and fired it up. I ran it for 30 minutes initially watching the CHT gauge. As the temperature approached 55C I shut the compressor down and allowed it to cool as I ran some errands. In 30min it filled the tank from empty to 2200psi.

I returned later and ran the compressor for another 25 minutes. Although CHT didn't get above 50C this time, I wanted to fill the tank to 4000psi and then time how long it would take to get the tank from 4000 to 4500psi. After a short break, the compressor topped off the tank at 4500psi in 5 minutes.

According to the AIRGUN TANK FILL CALCULATOR, I can top off the gun from 3000 to 4000psi more than 22 times. If I start with the gun at 2500psi, I will get 15 top offs to 4000psi.

I will probably use the regulator setting in the neighborhood of 2400psi for efficiency. That will be determined after tuning.

After just over 1 hour of use, the Mobil Rarus oil is a bit dark. Lots of microscopic metal shedding from the cylinder bore on break in. I have another 20oz ordered and will change it ASAP.

All in all, I am very pleased with the performance so far. Using the compressor 5-10 minutes at a time to top off the SCBA tank will probably lead to a long service life.

After checking the tank this morning, pressure had dropped to around 4100psi due to the hot compressed air cooling overnight. I will probably invert the tank, crack the valve to expel any condensed moisture and top it off to 4500psi.
