All the airguns I have are cheap. Or, at least they started out cheap. I've modded them all to some extent. Some mods are fairly inexpensive ( or almost free). Other mods are more costly.
If I added up all the mods to what I've done to a pair of Crosman 1377 / 1322's: I'd say I probably have around $500 invested in my homemade, Crosman 2289 Backpacker and the same amount invested in my homemade, Crosman 1389. Both of those are superlative airguns, so it was and is worth it.
I got my Crosman NP2, .22 Summit Ranger on sale for $99 (it's my understanding Midway had them on sale for $67 6 month's before I got mine). After adding a M*Carbo NP2 trigger kit ($15), a Tasco 2.5-10X42mmAO scope, an LDC and a sling, the total cost is now around $150.
That NP2 SR can now compete w/ some of the best springers around though.
