Just got a tripod

Well I finally pulled the trigger I ordered a tripod. A kopfijager k700 with reaper grip.
We shall see if it was worth it.

Congrats. I don’t know anything about that particular tripod but I can tell you that I do really love using a tripod for shooting. I’ve only been using one for a couple years but I wish I’d started sooner. It’s almost as stable as a bench if you use it well.

"Good price" is subjective (depending on one's budget). I got my tripod for $16 on an insane 1 day sale. Never expected it to be nearly as robust & stable as it is. For $16 I figured I'd take the gamble. Glad I did. Almost makes me feel like I'm cheating when I use it. I think you'll love the tripod. I do but don't want to become dependent on it.

16 is a good price for sure. I wasn’t too upset with the price I paid for a US made product. At least that’s what’s claimed. I don’t need it for shooting while hunting but for plinking in the back yard. I’m also hopeing to hang my pack from it and throw some netting around it as a blind.

Balls seem to fit into weight ratings based on ball diameter. The screws push a plastic ring into the ball/bottom disk for tension. Avoid getting grease between those rings and the ball, you cant open it without damage.

I saw alot of metal shavings on the threads of the set screws so I broke those in by cleaning/regreasing/cycling/cleaning.

If you hunt long range 150 plus yards a tri-pod can be your best friend,

I haven't tried this tripod but my experience has been that it's difficult to lock in exactly on what you're aiming at, the knobs are 'all or nothing' and don't allow minor corrections to stick.

A tripod is better than no tripod but there's a huge difference in how steady a tripod is depending on how well it's made, what type of leg material used, and it's weight load rating.

For example I have a aluminum Manfrotto 055 which should be steady using a RRS gun clamp but it's a night and day difference compared to my Fat Boy which is very very stable using a level head and attached to the gun via Pic or ARCA rail.
You'd have to experience this to realize it.

I almost always shoot off my Coman KX3636 tripod with a Weyllan ARCA adapter. Guns with a bottom side picatinny get a ARCA adapter and I have 3 ARCA clamps for those that do not.

The clamps do not work nearly as well as the adapter. I have added picatinny to a couple of guns just to use the adapter.
