Just Got a Diana 470 Target Hunter-Have Questions For Owners

Hello Everyone,

I just bought a Diana 470 Target Hunter. I have admired this gun for many years, but was afraid to purchase it without "trying it on" as I wasn't sure if my finger would reach the trigger with my thumb around the grip. As luck would have it, I was able to shoulder one a few months back and it fit like a glove. Months passed and then I found a deal that I could not pass up. I originally wanted it in .22 caliber, but the deal was for the .177 caliber only. If it shoots as well as I think it will I'll still probably get one in .22 cal too. Pictures do not do it justice, but here you go-

When it came I opened the packaging and was surprised to see the gun box was labeled RWS. The gun is labeled RWS too. I know that RWS is just the importer of various Diana guns, but I thought that the 470 was Diana all the way? This gun was made in 2015, so it sat on a shelf for a long time.

I have a 34P that is stamped RWS and Diana (with Diana logo lady). It has Diana engraved into the stock as well. Built 2014. Terrible photo, but the scope is in the way-

For those that have a 470-

1-What year was it made?

2-What does your gun have stamped on it? Diana trademark lady or RWS?

3-Does it have a safety warning stamped on the receiver?

4-What scope and mounts do you use? Drooper base?

5-Does your bear trap release lever ride against the compression tube? Does it scratch the finish off? Mine is tight to the tube and I do not want to scratch the finish.

6-What cleaner/protectant should I use on the finish? I know it isn't blued and is some type of paint.

I look forward to shooting the gun and am curious if any changes occurred over the years. Once it breaks in and I have some time with it I will post a little review. My scope just came today and I need to figure out the mounts/base still, so please tell me what you use.

Thanks!

..the bluebook has that the diana 470th was started in 2014 , but some how i got one from glenn seiter , who sold us the refurbs and returned demos back then.... but i had one around 2011. it was the first t-06 i had ever shot. mine seemed to have the goddess and rws on it, shot darn near clover leaf at 50 yards from a bench using .22 crosman premiers in the cardboard box - very consistent 885 fps (+/- 4 fps) . i still have not shot a better dianawerk airgun. i thought this was about the pinnacle of dianas..... that one went to argentina.... ..the 2-3 .22 diana 460's ive had shot 880 fps and not as accurate - but that stock on the ft version does make a difference. i cant think of a nicer modern diana air rifle. - paul.

. .22 caliber rws/diana model 470 th

. this is a superb air rifle. in my opinion, this is the pinnacle of diana's spring/piston airguns. it was a very consistent 885 fps w/ crosman premiers . very accurate, very powerful, very beautiful. i cannot recall if the 'th' meant target hunter or thumb hole. the matte-finished dianas are lovely on the eyes. it is not as much designed for hunting as i would like, but it does have some neat features in the stock (there is a video clip under the videos tab that explains this further). - raneman. 10-11-13. ..................................

Thanks! I was able to do just that; way easier than I thought.

ranedouglas-

I agree, this is one beautiful gun. The thumbhole stock in particular is awesome; it is so comfortable to shoulder. I hope that mine is a shooter. Do you happen to know where I can watch the video clip you mentioned? If not, what are the hunting features built into the stock?

Thanks!

I see that this is a year old but hope that no one minds.

OP asked the following to which I will respond as just received my new 470 TH

For those that have a 470-

1-What year was it made? I'm not certain but has "MADE IN GERMANY DE 2015" stamped on the right side, between stock and scope mount. *Does the "DE" refer to Deutschland, December, or something else.

Is it strange for a gun stamped "2015"
to be so long between manufacture & sale. Does the serial number (on the barrel) indicate date of manufacture?

2-What does your gun have stamped on it? Diana trademark lady or RWS? Diana

3-Does it have a safety warning stamped on the receiver? No safety warning.

4-What scope and mounts do you use? Drooper base? Hawke Vantage SF 3-12x44 Half Mil Dot. Hawke Match Ring Mounts, Weaver 1-inch, High,Double Screw.

5-Does your bear trap release lever ride against the compression tube? Does it scratch the finish off? Mine is tight to the tube and I do not want to scratch the finish. No, mine is free of stock and compression tube.
