Just got a daisy 887 in the mail

Being a fan of CO2 and open sites, I decided to get something to challenge myself. I almost got a 753s, but this seemed much nicer. Thank you Champion’s Choice in Tennessee, actually a few dollars cheaper than Amazon, which I avoid anyway. It’s an ok rifle, the model it’s based off of, is pretty basic. The stock is pretty nice, and I used 2 of the 4 provided spacers for a proper fit.

I’m getting the tank filled today, the guy on the phone said no charge for the 2.5ozs, so good for that. The only issue so far...

This was included. I sure hope this was offhand, and not in a firm mount, because that doesn’t look too good for 33 feet, where you’re trying to hit half a millimeter dot. I guess I will find out tonight.

Our club owns one of these and I own one personally as well. We loan the club rifle to shooters who show up wanting to try indoor air rifle with our group. My personal rifle has been on long-term loan between two different club members for several years. I'm not sure I have shot it two dozen times since I bought it. They are decent rifles and compare well to the other NRA/CMP Sporter rifles.

In case you are not aware, there is a trigger modification with instructions that you can find online. My rifle needed it and it now has a crisp 1 1/2 pound pull. Another common modification is to add an additional barrel weight immediately behind the one that is currently attached to your rifle. This brings the weight up close to the 7 1/2 pound limit for Sporter rifle and improves the balance. I would recommend keeping a supply of cylinder O-rings and a burst disc/relief valve on hand as I have had to replace these several times. All of those parts are available from Daisy Outdoor Products. Be sure to lube(but not overlube) the cylinder O-ring per Daisy's instructions. Lastly, be gentle with the fill hose thumb screw if you are using the one from Daisy. We have three at our club because the thumb screw keeps coming off the valve. I have repaired each one with Loctite, but if the problem continues I may have to drill thru the knob and shaft and install a pin. We weigh our cylinders as we fill them. They are easy to overfill-hence the relief valve.

The rifle feels nice and shoots quite well. With two stock spacers, most adults will find it comfortable. One of our club members has cleaned the AR 5/10 target at 10 meters with my rifle from prone with sling using Champion's Choice pellets and it has also turned in some very good 4-position scores at 50 feet over the years. I think the advice above regarding cleaning the barrel is good.

Good luck,

BB

My buddy and I took 25 shots each to site in, 10m resting on a couch. This is the first 6 shots I made offhand 10m (33ft), no sling. That bull was shot 3, then I found I couldn’t hold the rifle still anymore, the 6th was low far left. I’m definitely going to need to improve my fitness. I had to put the black circle otherwise the the whole site picture was filled. It seems a lot like golf when you start, one good shot out of 6, or worse. It is fun trying, like golf. I am about to order the real 10m targets.

I really like the gun, it’s extremely accurate, capable of one ragged 3 shot hole resting at 10m. It’s really easy to operate, very consistent speed it seems, looks fairly well made on closer inspection, and the sites are easy to use. My buddy and I are going to have another shoot off today.

This is the 3rd six shot group from my informal shoot off yesterday. Buddy and I took 6 at a time. The last 3, 2 bulls and under a dime, standing offhand no sling at 10 meters.

So the rifle is amazingly accurate. I shortened the pull of the trigger some, and I can just feel the very light second stage. It is like a video game I have, you sway slightly, but just have to be careful of alignment when you pull the trigger. The sites are so precise. My buddy said worth every dime, and I agree, an amazing sporter for sure.
