Just getting started at 55!

I will throw one other critical consideration into your decision making process. Read the hunting regulations (as they apply to Air Rifles) for all of the states you intend to hunt in.
Different states have various requirements for minimum caliber for hunting larger fur bearers, such as Raccoon. If you are planning on hunting in a state which requires .25 caliber, then your choice is made. My state breaks down game in 4 categories. Small Critters (rabbit, squirrel), Fur Bearers (fox, coyote, raccoon), Large Game (Deer, Javelina, mountain lion, bear), and critters you simply cannot hunt with an air rifle (moose, turkey). Your choice of game and state will define what you should get.

Umop3pisdn. Welcome to the forum. Great choice on the puncher. Forget all the bull crap you hear about a hand pump and pcp. You are setting yourself up for a. Very short romance. Forget the hill pump. That pump will cost at least $250 bucks. Dig a little deeper (less then $400 ) and buy a Yong heng compressor and be done with your air problems. Your next purchase should be a small (Joe B guppy tank or something in that size complete with fill whip and you can enjoy your gun. Add a other gun later , no problem. Air pro lem solved. Experience speaking here. Listen up.

Saw an advertisement on this forum where Ernest Rowe had 3 Edguns for sale ... he's trying to get out of his Edgun distributorship and go back to full time tuning and repairs of air guns. One of the best dang air gun repair guys around anywhere. The Edgun would come tuned and ready for you. Ernesr Rowe has been making guys dreams come true by working his magic on guns that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn door for years. Might want to check it out, I believe he was asking about $1400/ gun which will come tuned and he would be glad to do any repairs in the future. He has a website at http://ernestrowe.com/ accessories
Just my 2 cents worth.

Want to underscore a couple of things:

Buy once, not twice. Find the best gun out there that seems to do what you want it to do and get that one. Ask me how I know this...

For the kind of hunting you are doing (up to racoon) a .22 should be fine. With the new 25.4 g pellets and the more powerful rifles being made. The .22 is the new .25.

Lastly, welcome to the forum and PCP shooting. It's a lot of fun.

Chas that was my theory: buy once, not twice. I’m getting started into PCP too, unfortunately at 63 I’m not retiring any time soon. I have my air tank, Aztec Emerald scope, 2500 pellets that I can begin sorting all while I wait for my FX Crown which will hopefully be here in January. I’ve been in and out of enough hobbies when I have bought twice and lost money.

Enjoy your adventure uno.
