Tuning Just came in today! 4 the fx fans the new barrel tuner!

Oh look after the moderator is threaded on and i twist the weight, it comes inward. So I assume that the moderator is the stop for the weight going out, and not to be used as a lock nut for the moderator 😁

I don't trust these will make any marginal difference @ shorter distances (meaning 60-70 and shorter) for a real pleasure of buying it you shall go @ least a 100.

And of course :

#1 do the the liner indexing first,

#2 score the card and measure the spread footprint, picture

#3 install the tuner and

#4 score the card again measure the spread footprint, picture

There's only one way to find out I suppose. Should make for a few interesting range sessions at least.

So i started. This is at 50 as thats as far as i have at home. There are some long hash marks and short has marks. I'm shooting 5 shot groups and rotating to next long hash mark then shoot a group rotate and again for about 2 rotations then measure groups. But in theory that should mean i should be able to find the smallest group and go back to it right? Well i developed a leak at the o-ring where the bottle screws on and can't test that theory. 😔

Oh well, hurry up and wait.Ā

Oh yeah the impact definitely is better than i can shoot so there is going to be user error involved so Im not sure if i can actually make things better.Ā

Okay so i got a seal to work on the bottle.Ā

Its a 12mm,Ā outside diameter is a little small and its a bit thick but it will work. Its late. My base tune was basically a quickie as i had a .30 barrel firing 840 with a short 500mm barrel. Now it has a 700mm with a .22 firing 18.1s at abou 910 fps. Base on the previous 5 shot groups i adjust the barrel weight to the tightest group which was the 3 group above. It was late so i just fired at the the 35 yard target just to see if the groups were tighter. It was! I decided to fire off some single shots at the lines where they crossed and did better than i thought. Not only did i get better groups with the barrel tuner but i got better shots even with a half assed tune!

Good to hear that you had had some success with the tuner. I have one on order and will be trying it with slugs. I watched a video by Air Hunter Gerard (sp?) and he said with this tuner you can now tune for the velocity you want. He said to start at the velocity with the tuner screwed all the way out (flush with the mod I would assume) and then start the tuning process. Chris said in his video to start on the hash mark with the dot. I think I'll be starting with it flush and see how that goes.

Wow, well, although I am still learning. I have to say the barrel tuner does do something and for me, this time, it does make my groups tighter. I don't really have much luck with slugs in general past 50 yards, but I think maybe I just dont spend enough time and money with them. Maybe all this time it was mostly harmonics with my setup that prevented me from getting a slug to work. Today at the rangeĀ just hitting some steel I got some pretty good groups with the Zans at 100 yards. Boy I want to hit some paper at 100 to make sure what I'm seeing is actually real.

I think the barrel tuner like all the other knobs and adjustments on a impact can make your fx shoot better if you spend the time with it. It works in conjunction with the other parts of your setup. So don't changeĀ the moderator after getting things working togetherĀ as things will change! And just like all the other adjustments it can just as easily buggerĀ things up if you don't know what you are doing. Boy I really hope I am understanding this tuner thing correctly and making the adjustments like I should be. šŸ¤”
