Just been talked out of an FX Crown

I own a Crown and I don't think it would be my first choice to take out hunting especially in .25 and .30 as the barrels are very long and unsupported. The .22 and .177 Crowns use a shorter barrel. The guns to take out into the field if you like bullpups are the Edgun R5M or Lelya, or a R5 if you want a .30 cal. Nice accurate compact guns, perfect for carrying out in the woods. The new Edguns are the most robust airguns I've ever owned and could be used as very expensive clubs if needed, and it wouldn't effect their accuracy.

This is just my opinion, but if you are only looking for a hunting rifle, I would go with an Impact that has the same features as the crown. It will be more light-weight, smaller to maneuver, and easier to shoot off-hand. If you are a traditional rifle guy, you might want to save your money and look at the Streamline. This rifle is overlooked but has great reviews. When hunting, sometimes less is more (less to go wrong in the field).

I own an Impact and this would not be my first choice to hunt with. (Depending on the quarry?

I think for general hunting I would choose the Warcat II. (But I'm a bullpup type of person)

What I said about the Streamline applies to the WarCat, simpler the better when hunting. Curious to your reason for the WarCat over the Impact especially with the large capacity magazines for the Impact.

I spoke with AOA just a few weeks back, I was in the same boat as you. They also strongly advised me not to get the crown for hunting purposes, but recommended the bobcat. That’s being said, I purchased the bobcat in .30 cal. The gun is very accurate and shoulders well, my only concern was shooting slugs through the standard smooth twist. I’ve heard from some it can damage the barrels and the accuracy is poor. I don’t know about damaging the barrel but I do know that at 60-70yds it loves the 66gr Nielsen slugs. I hope this helps, I’m happy with my choice!

Well I think the WarCat edges out the impact (At least for me) because it's a bit lighter, and it can easily be fitted with a shoulder strap. So long walks and carrying the rifle all day won't be a issue.

My Impact does have a single point strap but i can't comfortably sling it over my shoulder, I have to carry it in front of me.

Kudos to AOA. Sounds like they're interested in matching the customer with the right gun for their needs. The Bobcat is on my shortlist. What FPS are you getting from the 66 gr

Neilsens?

Yes, I think AOA really tries to match their customers with the right gun for them, or to at least give their honest opinion. I’m not real sure on the FPS, my Chrony won’t be here until tomorrow. I will let you know the next day or so. My father and I started out with the .30 Hatsan carnivore, I personally feel like it’s a harder shooting gun but my father said after shooting my bobcat “ That takes all of the fun out of it”.

Just to make your decision a little tougher :) Here are 5shot groups from my FX Crown .30 at 50yards with the bottom target shot on power wheel 5 and the top being shot at MAX.

I do most of my hunting sitting down in my yard out to about 70-80yards as I have a nice tree line surrounding my yard on 3 sides. If you’re walking around a lot I would NOT get a Crown, you’ll be too worried about bumping it... The “Warcat” is probably a better choice... light and VERY accurate (see Ted’s blog video on it).

Just my 2cents! Good luck with your decision!

Hey man,I’ve some more results for ya. I don’t know if you decided on a rifle or not. This 9 shot group was taken out of the bobcat this weekend at 75yds. shooting 44.75gr at 950 fps which is roughly 89fpe .I installed a Huma regulator and am getting roughly 22 shots before dropping off. The regulator is set at 170bar. That’s low shot count but it is a powerhouse.

Good advice from AOA. They want you to be happy and make the right choice.

Bobcat or Impact if you need multi-shot capability or the Edgun R5M for single would be my short list.

I think the folks at AoA really do try to steer the buyer toward what they believe will be a more satisfying product. When I went in there, I told Robert that I wanted a Marauder (I had heard that they are a very good, lower cost PCP pellet rifle). He was happy to show me the Marauder, but I think he could tell I would probably appreciate a Bantam much more, for not much more money. I bought the Bantam. I think he was right in steering me toward the Bantam, rather than just selling me a Marauder.

And now that I'm ready to buy another PCP rifle, I will tell him what I'm interested in, but will trust his judgement and guidance once again.

Well I've decided to go with a .25 cal. Cricket with the power tune from Georgia Airguns and DonnyFL LDC. The tune includes a larger air reservoir for more shots. It will shoot 38 gr. slugs which will take out a coyote at 50 yards. And cheaper ammo for target shooting with the .25. Pretty impressive results with your .30 cal. This gun is lighter than the Bobcat. Remember I'm an old fart. Only apprehension may be the rear cocking. Should have the gun in about three weeks and I'll let you know how it shoots.
