Junk Levels

Do not buy the Eagle Vision levels that screw into the Eagle Vision mounts. or you will feel like you had something screwed into you all the way to your shoulder blades. They are little plastic pieces of crap that are not true. I bought two from AoA for $17.99 each and neither one was level. Stick with the ones that mount on the tube or the Hawke that mount on the rail.

How did you go about determining that the EV levels were not accurate?

Level the scope to the EV then sight the scope on a plumb bob. The EV was not level. Put the other EV on and it was not the same as the one I had leveled with. Leveled the gun with a level on the rail. Leveled the scope, put the cross hair on the plumb bob and level on the rail was level. I put both the EV's back on and got two different readings and neither one was level. This was done with two new guns with the same results. I also checked them two other guns that have levels. I have eleven other guns with Hawke rail or BLK scope levels that are all true.

I always recommend avoiding levels that attach to the scope rail. All such a level can possibly hope to achieve is to be level with the receiver, and that's not what matters. What matters is that the reticle is aligned to the bore when mounting the scope, and then that the reticle is held level when shooting.

This is correct and the same goes for attaching levels to scope mounts. A mount level "might" agree with the scope level that has been aligned via a plumb bob. Even at that the mount level is probably not indicating true mount levelness. This doesn't mean that mount levels can't be used, you just have to know where the mount bubble needs to be in order to indicate a level scope. A level on the scope itself is the best choice.
