Took my FX Wildcat MK3 Compact in .22 to the range and shot some targets at 50 yards with both JSB 18.1 and AEA 18.3 gr pellets. The AEAs far outshot the JSBs which were always considered the gold standard. In fact, this rifle shot as well as the fancy-schmancy rimfires I've seen on some Youtube videos.

I regularly shoot and compete in the 30 & 40Y paper target challenge thread. I have almost totally switched to AEA and JTS pellets with most of .22 cal rifles, because they are more accurate and score better. (I.e. Taipan Vet 2, FX Royale 400 ST, Daystate Revere, HW 100 Carbine, RAW HM1000X).

All of the above are scoring higher with AEA vs. JSB. The pellet quality ( especially the skirts ) is far better. Less bent skirts and less random fliers. Several of the regular participants have experienced similar results with AEA pellets.

If you get a chance, check out the recent WRABF World Finals competition held in Finland in August. Sadeq just posted a link to all the scoring results. Click on the RImfire finals tab.

I would not want to be shooting AEA 18.1g pellets at 50 yards or meters against these guys. 😀

Like tommyb said above, JSB 18gr can have fliers because their skirts deform easily because they are a softer lead (less antimony). With that said, I now size all my JSB's but found a couple tins that had all shiny pellets which I believe were not tumbled and have more imperfections even after sizing them and when one loads roughly, I ALWAYS get a flier! But I have so many JSB 18gr tins so I need to shoot them. When the pellets have been tumbled and I size them, about 90% shoot perfectly. I shoot a Taipan Vet2, a RAW HMx and a Notos all in .22 FYI.

You couldn't. LV class is limited to 12 fpe and HV to 20 fpe. They are shooting .177 cal.

No, I know that Paul. 😉

I was teasing you about out shooting some Rimfire guys on YouTube. That said, most RF’s will out score a .22 air rifle shooting an 18g pellet. No comparison in my mind between a .40g bullet vs. pellet.

The exceptions to the aNovember are the high end .22 AG that are shooting .38 and .40g slugs. ( I.e., Thomas, Scout, Panthera ). We just need to look at past N50 matches to compare.

My real point was looking at the 2023 Worlds Championships, check out the RF scores on the Individual tab.

Incredible.
