JSB Redesigned Monsters for Taipan Veteran .22?

I was wondering if anyone has tried the 25gr Redesigned Monsters out of their Taipan Veteran .22? I am particularly interested if anyone has tried them out of a Veteran Long .22 with LW barrel, but I welcome anyone with experience to chime in.

  • How is accuracy compared to 18.1s (50/100 yards)?
  • What speeds seem to work well?

My Vet Long groups 18.1s decently at 50 yards (.75" ctc), but I was hoping I could find a pellet configuration to give me MOA precision at range.

In my experience, 100 yards you may be on the ragged edge of stability with a .22 long and RD monsters.

It's been my mission to get RD monsters to shoot well out of my .22 Taipan Veteran Long at distance. One ragged hole at 10m, no problem. But take this pellet out to distance, and this is with any current airgun, can be a challenge. Having a long skirt puts the CG behind the head, and once the pellet starts slowing down it destabilizes and gets ugly.

At my last residence, I had targets from 120 to 273 yards. In stock configuration, my Taipan Long couldn't stabilize the RD monsters at 120 yards. Shot excellent at 10m, but somewhere to 120 yards it became destabilized.

I've since been on a mission to get RD monsters to shoot good at distance. So far the only power upgrade on my Taipan Veteran is a stiffer hammer spring, and this past weekend on a trip I was able to get them to shoot well to 115 yards (furthest I shot them that weekend). That was at an elevation of 7,000' though. I have a power plenum on the way, and I'm hoping to get an FX barrel adapter kit and an FX superior 'heavy' liner.

Try them at 100 yards. It may end up working well for you in stock configuration. But don't be surprised if you have to do some power mods to get the RD monsters to 100 yards reliably.

My barrel is the CZ but the redesigned monsters are the best projectile for it. The monsters are better than the 18.1 gr. or any slug. I have found the best accuracy between 840 and 875 fps. Most others will tell you the faster the better, but that is not my experience. They do start to spiral at some point after 100 yards but are capable of the MOA precision you are looking for at 100 yards. They will likely be the go to pellet for your LW barrel as well.
