JSB or Crosman?

This is a bit of an odd situation but I am honestly trying to decide whether I want to shoot JSB 18.1 grain or Crosman 14.3 grain pellets from my new-to-me Bullshark 22. I started shooting the Crosmans early when I was trying to get the regulator working just because they are cheap. But I noticed they were grouping pretty well. So I tried a 30 yard challenge target with them and I think it was a 194. I shot a 193 with them this evening in 10 mph winds. Earlier today I shot a 195 with the JSBs and I shot a 198 with the JSBs a couple weeks ago so I think they shoot better. But is maybe another 3-4 points worth roughly double the pellet cost? The Crosmans are flying about 925 and the JSBs about 875 fps. The tune was really selected for the JSBs, it just happens to work well with the Crosmans. It is even possible I could get a little more out of the Crosmans by sorting them and tweaking the tune.

I need to at least test some of the new Spanish Crosmans to make sure it likes them too but if it does, what would you do? I could also test FX 18.1 and they will probably shoot like the JSBs but they cost almost as much too. I kind of like having a gun set up for cheap pellets even though it may not be my best target shooter.

What would you do?

Thanks for that link. I have a JSB assortment and tried all I have but that did not include a 14.3 grain JSB. It likes the 13.4 JSBs about as well as the 18 grain. It also likes 18 and 21 grain H&Ns. Trenier's price on the JSBs is only $1/500 more than many are asking for the Crosmans. Shipping would make the difference bigger but still... I don't like how the JSB skirts are often bent but it does not seem to affect the way they shoot. Having a gun that isn't pellet picky can make choosing more difficult.. Not complaining, just observing.

It depends on your shooting needs.

Are you chasing precision and what's your shooting style?

I personally feel as though I need to be the weak link in any shooting activity...not my gun. So am willing to pay the marginal difference to have my gun performing at it's best if more expensive pellets is all it takes.

With the upcoming changes to the Crosman pellets, now being made in Spain and a bit lighter, I have started to work with some Apolo brand pellets. Two of my rifles really like both the .22 cal in 14.8gr and 16gr. When I am shooting for strict accuracy is when the extra money is spent on a particular brand and style of projectile. For just plain good shooting I will stick with the Apolo.

Oh, and another new to us brand showing great promise is Rifle but I haven't shot any of them yet.

I shoot jsb unless the gun prefered cphp, id try and slow the crosmans down a little and I bet they group as good as the jsb for you

I was told by a guru that h&n never miss one hole every shot out of any gun any time or conditions you shoot , so ?

I got a order of Norma .22 did good
.177 9.1g did good. 177 8.4 bad .

Id like to know if the norma pellets for the EU market that are made in Germany compare to the norma pellets for our /USA market made in s.america do. ( Im sure its another "we got it sooooo good" thing ,)

I tend to only shoot cphp before the change , but the new gphp .177 seeme as good . There pretty much the Spanish daisy hollow points in a crosman tin . Same shape and weight. So???

I'll hopefully try the gphp .22 soon being the weather / rain / wet conditions here all this week .

My motto has been " i dont mind a pellet picky gun as long as it shoot cphp". And best it's a every day lower price walk in Walmart . Not mail order cost and wait and hassles 😉.

I agree, life is too short and my shooting time is limited. I do not want to waste the little shooting time I get dealing with crappy pellets.

Once I find the Magic Pellet for a rifle I buy a sleeve of pellets and be done with it.

I did not see anyone mention H&N pellets so I will chime in here.

The H&N Field Target Trophies are usually cheaper than the JSB / AA / FX counterparts and work very well in springers and PCP's.

They also offer the Baracuda line of pellets. The 10.65 Baracuda Match are a great alternative to the 10.3's if your rifle does not like JSBs.

I am not a slug shooter but I hear good things about them.

H&N slugs have never ever failed me.

The pellets in .22 and .25 not so much.

In springers and (for me) lower power tuned PCPs the .22 FTTs have been great and baracuda 18s

In .177 its a different story. Excellent pellets. Baracuda match has been the best shooting pellet in every single .177 pcp I've had. By far.

Thanks guys.

I shoot Baracuda Match in my P35-177 and P35-22. But I have a JTS sampler I want to try in the 177. It shoots well but I have not been able to shoot better than a 197 with it so I am wondering it a different pellet might shoot better. I happened to buy several tins of 21 grain Baracudas by mistake and the best score I've shot with my P35-22 this year is a 198 and I did it with both the plain Baracudas and the Match. My Stoeger Bullshark shoots 18 and 21 grain H&N well but I think JSB 18.1s may be a little more accurate. I have not tried FX yet but probably will. In my other guns which prefer JSB they also like FX.

I think the Crosmans might shoot better a little slower but I haven't shot a 30 yard challenge target with them in the Bullshark that was lower than 190 yet, lowest may be 193. I shot a 193 yesterday with them in 10 mph wind. It's kind of nice to have a cheap gun that likes cheap pellets. I also kind of what to see what a 14.3 grain pellet at over 900 fps does to a squirrel skull. It will probably just zip right through but they work well for me in the Prod at about 750 fps.
