JSB is still the king of pellets...no takers?

Regardless of the level of ones faith in FX YouTube promotionals, demand for quality pellets has far exceeded supply for about two years now. And as JSB quality goes down to try to handle the demand, the demand for QUALITY pellets is only increasing.

I base that on the fact that JSB pellets have been: sold out, back order, preorder, we'll notify you when (if) we get more, status for about that long.

We just need a company that's capable of all the logistics to realize that there is a market for a consistently made pellet.

Maybe they are at the limit of production of both rifles and pellets ? How many air guns are sold every day just in the USA ? Across the pond where you cant have a powder burner in many places ?and how many people buy a red rider expecting an FX if they buy the top quality pellet ? All adds up .
A red rider can have a minute of Squirrel @ 20 yards " and if i just use a 10.5 JSB " hmmm?

I use JSBs in a couple of my 25s but I have not tested a bunch of pellets in them. I have tested JSBs and others in my one 177 and my 4 22s. Some shoot JSBs OK but all shoot something else better. I shot a 198 in the 30 yard challenge with JSB 18.1s in my Bullshark, for instance, but I've shot one 200 and a couple 199s with AEA 18.3s (really weigh 18.1 grains) and that is out of one tin of 250 pellets. My P35-22 likes H&N Baracuda 21.1 well but the first target I shot with the AEA 21.9 grain pellets was the same score and a few more Xs than the best of a bunch of targets with Baracudas. My Caiman's favorite is H&N 18s, it shoots FX and JSB 18.1s consistently worse, and the AEA 18.3s may be a little worse than the Baracuda in that gun. I need to shoot more to be sure.

I've measured JSBs for weight consistency and frankly they are poor. H&N and anything else I've measured except Crosmans have been better. But it doesn't seem to matter. Guns that like them like them. Sorting them doesn't seem to help. I think JSBs are good pellets but I do not think they are better made than H&N and I think AEAs are made better than either. But that does not mean every gun will prefer AEAs or any other pellet for that matter.

I'm happy for all you JSB fan boys to talk them up all you want. Helps keep the price on the pellets my guns prefer lower. But if you really think they are the best try some others and prove it. I think 30 yard challenge targets are a better test than group size. But I use groups for screening tests. If a gun won't shoot groups 1/4 inch or smaller they are not going to shoot high 190s targets. But pellets that give good groups get shot at some 30 yard challenge targets. It's fun.

The question of JSB superiority depends on the context....
As the OP pointed out, sub20 field target? You better be shooting some flavor of JSB manufactured pellet if you want to be competitive.

Here's the recent results from the AZ State Grand Prix. I can only see one non-JSB pellet int the mix.

Much of that is that .177 JSB pellets simply have better BCs than the .177s from other manufacturers.

When it comes to higher power and the exhibition/product showcase events like RMAC and EBR and PA Cup....other manufacturers have taken much of the market share.....again, because of BCs. The BC from the new .30s from AEA etc make it a go-to for many pulling that one-armed bandit of chance at the 100 yard paper events.

How far JSB has fallen recently with some of there more popular offerings.
The ,177 10.3 which was always very good and for what ever the reason AA 10.3 make by JSB have been stellar !!
*The new packaging 10.3's of either label have yet to hear anyone say they shoot as well and no one saying better -1
* The new .22 cal in 13.4g same thing, old ones shot great, new label & design not so much -2
* Then we have had for some time the RD ( Redesign debacle ) of the .177 monsters being inferior to old trashcan skirt design. .25 cal in general has been a love hate relation for some time now.

Speak up if you have something to share on said subject :poop:

Now since this thread started ... JTS and AEA ( Same pellets best many can tell ) from China no less, have quite a few in there offered range of weights and calibers that are superb !!

Yeah, this thread is a great time capsule. I have tried the AEA 50.1gr in my .30 Paradigm and the same weight JSB still shoot better. As far as .25 goes, the 34gr MKII's have never given me a reason to try anything else. The 18.13gr .22 seem to still be close to the JTS/AEA for others, but I have so many left that I probably won't be trying anything else for a year or more. In a few more years I'll respond back to this thread if anything changes my opinion. 'Zombie thread' indeed! lol

My .177/10.34s that ive been running at ft matches are semi-old stock, purchased prior to about 2022.

Due to stocking up on good ones when I could, the only pellets I've bought in the last few years have been....

JSB .20s, in both weights. I've still never gotten a bad batch of .20 JSB.

.22/28.55 Grands. Theyre somewhat competitive at the 100 yard paper games. Got me into the finals at a recent smallish EBR-style match.

.22/20.83. These beat the absolute socks off the 18.13s, in the BC category.

I bought some of the JTS stuff in .22 a while back (something in the 20grain range if i remember correctly) and decided after about 50 shots that they weren't better than JSB for accuracy. Trying to scrub that crapping hard "lead" out of the barrel cemented my decision to buy no more of THAT mess. ("Lead" got some quotes cuz JTS is using some sort of alloy, comparable to the old Crosman Premiers.....using hard lead projectiles can almost ruin a barrel for going back to shooting a quality lead pellet lime JSB. I exaggerate of course, the hard alloys don't ruin a barrel, tbey just makes it a royal pain in the ass to get out, and that barrel won't shoot good until it is removed.)

(I take that back. I found 5 tins of FX labeled .22/25.4 Monster RDs at Trenier a few months ago an snatched em up for my long range/high power ft gun that favors them. )

No ... slugs excel at longer distances due to much better BC value, In closer and lower power PELLETS are Best !!!

I am shooting target papers only, mostly .22 for 50M and .25 for 100M from a bench setup.
In recent years I have tested all possible .22 pellets I could get to me hands.
In my eyes the 18gn and 21gn H&N beats the JSB scores @ 50 meters, I have not find yet any alternatives that can out perform.
At 100 M the 34gn .25 cal is again what I could not replace.
I would lovely migrate to .30 cal for 100M rings, only because reading forums here. But I cannot justify the expense.

I think the pellets manufacturing need some revolutionary re-design if we wanna get to a next level.

1st off ... a Wadcutter
while most trend to prefer Domes for the vastly better BC and longer range capabilities, wad cutters prefer lower speeds than a dome, designed to cut clean holes in paper targets,
JSB makes domes, but I've never read a comment about them on the AG forums good bad or otherwise. Where as the R10 Match pellet is known accurate in 10M guns, pistols and those pesting at short distances etc ...

If you have some JSB domes ? and they shoot well, then there ya go ;) use them and enjoy.

Just thoughts ....
