JSB 30 cal pellet weight distribution

Today, I weighed a whole tin of 44.75 grain .30 caliber pellets. They ranged from 44.0 gr to 45.5 gr. with most between 44.4 and 45.1 gr. Seems quite a spread. The outliers at either end of the bell curve probably explains the occasional flier and velocity spread. Comments please?

Nice test. Thank you for taking the time. I have done a fair bit of weighing,.. mostly with .25 JSB's. Mine has been more of a gradual bell curve where as yours is more centered.

As for POI shift,.... shoot em' and see. I can put some in all 12 bins of an egg carton more often than not. Can't say I have seen a POI shift.

As a side note,... a fellow once said that 1 grain in .177 will matter a lot more than 1 grain in a .25,..... so something to think about. (% of weight,... in other words)

Try OLD tins of those. Not that many different weights. At least the 30s are far less prone to damage. Just use the most common weight bulk ones for your longest shots while the other minorities for short range. Just keep in labeled WEIGHED batches then you're fine. Don't mix different lot number tins! Only combine tins with the SAME LOT NUMBER.

My RAW HMX1000x and FX BOBCATs and BOSSes and Daystate Renegade HP don't seem to mind shooting straight out of the tins. You should see the 177 and 22 JSBs when you try weighing those! The 30 is ok because it's a much smaller deviation in weight since its a whopping 44+ grains! Imagine that variance in 10 grain 177 and 16 or 18 grain 22!
