Jsb .22 grands lw poly

Thread 'JSB .22/28.55 Grands' https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/jsb-22-28-55-grands.1325861/

I used the Grands to qualify for the finals match at a smallish local EBR-like benchrest match in July. Pretty sure I was the only .22, against mostly .30s, and maybe a .25 or two.

With pellets being the qualifier, the Grands are the best option I have for 100 yard benchrest in my .22 and less arsenal. They don't beat a good batch of MRDs by much, but they do by a little.

Of my airgun friends, as well as what I read on the forums, my OEM Ghost barrel liking the Grands is an outlier, as I haven't found or heard of anyone else getting the accuracy that I am from them.

Would you say the Ghost and Delta Wolf barrels are similar or the same? Just curious as I ordered a Delta Wolf in .22cal.

Daystate/BRK (or perhaps LW) have drastically changed their barrel profiles in the last few years.

The .22 OEM Ghost barrel that I have is a 1:30 polygonal rifled barrel. And it's a true polygonal, one of the old styles where the lands and grooves are barely perceptible. Most of the newer guns where guys have shared photos of rifling are coming with a new type of rifling. The newer ones are a triangle shaped land, fairly narrow, with grooves 3-4x as wide as the triangular land. And there are six of those strange triangular lands in the new(er) ones, if I remember correctly.

Also, in case you're not already aware, Ghost and Delta Wolf barrels are interchangeable-same machining. The only difference is the chronograph tube in the DW.

Thanks for the reply. The older style is preferable to the newer one?

I have no personal experience with the new rifling profile to be able to offer an opinion there. The older (true polygonal) can be REALLY good with Grands, or a good batch of Monster RDs. Both with fps in the 950ish realm.

Depending on twist rate, you may have a better chance of getting a dual slug/pellet shooter with the newer rifling profile. I say that because the older true polys with a slow twist are pretty much pellet only shooters. At least the couple that I've spent time with.
