Jsb .177 redesigned aa s500

Think this is going to be my pellet for this gun. 910fps untuned s500. Seems to be the perfect weight. I havent gone past 60 yards since its gusty winds today but with a .177 it was holding an inch. Cant wait till this wind lets up. Something tells me they wont fly straight after 60 yards but we’ll see! How does every one else do with these? Personally I was impressed for a gun rated at 20fpe and these are flyin at 24.5 fpe.

Sorry I just now saw that it was your post recently. I guess I should research before answering!

Thats ok! Im just putting this gun through its paces with different ammo. So far I like it. Heres ( i dont know how many, 12?) shots at 60 yards today and its very breezy. Im not sure of the bc of these, but its no wadcutter.

I've got an S500 second gen in .177 I shoot in HFT. Of course we can't shoot over 20fpe. However I tried the 13.43 (as well as a bunch of others) and just couldn't get satisfactory groups like you're getting. I tried at 800fps (19fpe) and lower too. Eventually went back to the 10.34's and tamed had to tame those down to 870 and they stack at 50 yards.

You've inspired me to go re-visit the 13.43 as I see a lot of success with them in others shooting HFT. And now proof the AA gun is very capable. Thanks for the post. I'll be following.

Dave, I just tried slowing them down to about 760. They did great at 30 yards. Not so much at 60, prob 2.5-3”. I dont have alot of experience with .177 and 100 yards right now might as well be a 1000 lol. Im guessing the redesigned likes to go fast. I only had a small sample of the original and they didnt do well over 850 but great at 800.

I will have take them for another "spin". Pellet testing is half the fun, right?

they should and would like some speed. IMO, the center of gravity needs to stay ahead of the center of pressure to keep the pellet from wobbling thus spiraling. But you don't want the pellet being pushed so hard the skirt wants to swap ends.

I love the gun and everything about it except you can't adjust the hammer spring. At least that's what the AA UK gun tech told me. The adjustable looking plug in the rear of the action? Nope. They said not to mess with it.
power adjuster and kinda barely moving it between indents is the only way I've found to not get either very little or too much velocity variation.
if you find a solution to getting sub 1" groups at 50yds I'm all ears!!

Dave Im workin on a way to adjust the hammer this week. But I dont think its going to be external. More of a set and forget it tune. I ordered a huma reg just so I know where Im at. Factory seems to be in the 140bar range. Im also turning the probe pin to .062 ( its .125 now), opening the brass port to around .150, and so on. Id like to run the jsb monster around 1000fps with the tp adjuster max, then use it to find the velocity. I might actually sleeve the adjuster, its too big. Max and one click down are the same, and this is why. Overall this is a simple gun to tune. The valve throat is plenty big all the way to the barrel. They restricted it at the barrel. Im guessing 30fpe is easily obtain on this platform.

Totally agreed. That's a game changer right there. 100 yards with a .177.

Not trying to hijack the thread but in the interest of accuracy, I ordered and received an airstripper I want to try out. I know I know.....

I was told by a noted FT shooter (whom I won't name unless this thing does pan out) they can help tighten up groups on some guns.
I realize it takes a lot of time, effort and pellets but I like to shoot. Worst thing that could happen is I take it off and go back to factory set up.

Doesnt take much to disrupt a .177 so its worth a shot! For what its worth, my groups tightened up witht the donnyfl on it. Not sure if thats a harmonics deal or controlling air blast better?

Ohhhh yeaaa got some good results today!

portmatched

peek poppet .250 dia

.200 throat

.156x200 tp

no valve spring

huma reg at 150 bar

superlight hammer 15grams ( factory 49g)

delrin guides

pin probe turned to .062

RESULTS:

15gr nsa 960 fps

12.5 nsa 1019 fps

13.4 monster red. 1004fps

best part? Shot count went UP

No paper results but soon. I also ditched the factory plastic baffles and made more of a internal air stripper. So pretty happy, only cost was huma reg but I got my 30fpe .177 pretty easy! Stay tuned for accuracy results.

I think Im going to stay at 140 bar. Its 930 with 15gr slugs and with that light of a hammer/spring preload the gun is just so smooth it feels hammerless. Shot count also went way up. Hopefully the wife and kids let me do some accuracy tests this afternoon. Also, the power adjust works perfect. I tried it with 10.5 barracudas:

480fps

660fps

820fps

930fps

1045fps

thats a pretty nice range now. Id also like to add that this is a pretty awesome gun/numbers for such a short barrel. If someone wanted to they could ditch the shroud and add 5-6” more and just use a mod. That would be nippin on the heels of a redwolf!
