Is tuning for power always the answer?

this is my Kral NP-03 without the stock , did initial chrony work and was limited by stay at home order. this gun is loud and even though my landlord is cool , his wife and 27 year old son are ultra lame SJW's anyway theis gun has 5 power settings i shot the 25 cal 25.4g AA pellets high - 735 ave fps for 30 FPE. 2nd 715 ave fps for 27 FPE. mid power 600 ave fps for 20 FPE. 4th level 460 fps for 12 FPE. and low power 430 fps for 10 FPE. these are initial reads on limited shots given my current conditions. now this is an unregulated gun and the shot power constantly drops through the shot string. i gave averages based on first 10 shots at each power level. and shooting at lower power will give more shots per fill. going forward , as i keep testing it , i will pass more information on. but can tell already , this gun fits the bill almost perfectly . [be perfect if regulated]

update: shot count - 190-120 bar , high - 20 shots 739 fps-654 fps , med power 25 shots 623 fps-572 fps , low power 40 shots 437 fps-406 fps power slowly decreases after every shot due to unregulated gun.

bandg, yes, if long range and getting the best wind fighting characteristics is the goal. For a low power gun, then I'd be looking for accuracy and maybe shot count. You don't need many ft lbs at 5-25 yards.

I understand your thought process, nothing wrong with that. I don't shoot larger calibers (almost all .177 with a few .22's) and don't shoot "long range" (mostly 40-50 yards and rarely beyond 75-80 with air guns). I still believe that maximum velocity with acceptable accuracy for the specific task at hand is desirable. It's my method but certainly might not be best for everyone. I even do it with the lowest powered guns I have, the P17 pistols. Highest accurate velocity attainable means less correction for drop or drift in most practical instances. Absolutely necessary? Certainly not. Desirable? Yes, at least in my case. Enjoy your shooting, however you choose to do it.

This is a good topic, when I first got into pcp’s I swore by .25cal and couldn’t see myself shooting anything else, but fast forward to today and I prefer .177cal ! I recently acquired my dream gun Kalibrgun Cricket Compact .177cal and I have just as much fun shooting it a near 12fpe as I do shooting 30fpe, this chubby little girl is a real shooter and color me impressed.
