Is this GAP normal?

I've had my Air Venturi Avenger.22 for a couple of weeks now and have been wondering if this gap between the barrel shroud and the breech is normal?!

What purpose does it serve?

Expansion. Metals and plastics expand and contract. When they touch your POI changes. Gap prevents changing POI due to temperature changes.
