Is this as cheap as a decent PCP can go?

I got one before Diana began rebranding them. It was sold by mrodair for $219 at the time. I added a ninja bottle and reg so I get about 60 shots at 24 fpe. It's pretty accurate more than enough to hunt small game. At 35 yards 10 pellets will make one hole.

The SPA products are generally very nicely made for the price. But like anything in this category, QC is spotty. For example, I have the CO2 brother of this rifle and it’s a remarkable shooter but only after chopping & recrowning to remove damaged rifling at the muzzle.

For guys who tend to do a tear down and deburr, you will most likely be thrilled by the performance for the money.

For guys looking for a great value that’s ready to go out of the box, it’s a lottery. So give it a good test drive within the return period and send it back if it has a problem. If it’s good, enjoy your good fortune.

Mine was a .22

grouped like a shotgun at 25 yds and at 40

there was no group

sent it back to pa for warranty repair and they replaced the barell and sent it back

mounted the scope moderator and second barell band and gave her a go

new barell shot worse than the first one

and wouldn't even group at 10 yds

so I've given up on it got a ra # from pa and it's going back this afternoon

loved the gun but couldn't get a group out of it

hard to tell my 14 yr old son here's your new rifle I hope u hit something with it 😎

I do have to say tho that pa customer service

has been excellent and everyone I've talked to

has been very friendly and willing to help with my stormrider issues

now to find my boy a new pcp in .22

the hunt begins lol

If you want cheap and really accurate go for a GAMO Urban/Chacal/Coyote. (one gun, different stock, moderator). AEAC has a great review on it, so you'll see it's no lemon.

In fact it's a BSA original with their famous BSA in house produced cold forged barrel. It's manufactured in the UK in the BSA factory in Birmingham . Only thing GAMO did was put their name on it, which is easy for them to do since they own BSA nowadays...

Actually a very smart move from GAMO as this thing is razor accurate. Ppl who don't know the origin of this gun think mostly bad of the GAMO brand in general, but they sure miss out on a true pellet stacker for a fraction of the high end class brands!!!

Considering buying just to have a light, cheap gun for grandkids. I like the idea of adding a ninja bottle and regulator (probably cost more than the gun?)

By the way, decent is a relative word. Decent as in it shoots reasonably accurate, the trigger isn't terrible, and the sights are OK, though I'll probably put a spare scope on it. I wouldn't shoot it much, but others might . . . . .

I'm not a Gamo fan but MartinT is so right. The BSA barrel is worth it alone. If you know how to chamfer channels, cut, recrown, the Stormrider might turn out ok.

Diana as a company is great, as are most of their products.

I don't know if you're limited monetarily or seeing if interest is even shown by your son. I can say this, in most things I've taken up, guns, guitars, archery. You're limited by your equipment up to a certain point. Air guns are much different than a guitar though.

I'm trying to say if you give him a junk trigger mismatched pellets, barrel that can't shoot ones slugged for it, he'll loose interest. This price point was around $5-600 with Marauders, Rainstorms. With a guitar, you get to solid quality & you're inspired. The "Gamo" BSA's that were mentioned are great rifles. Yeah, you may have to adjust trigger stages, break but it's a good solid PCP entry level.

Good luck

JamesD - My primary gun is an Impact, secondary is a Marauder. Looking for something lighter than the Marauder for friends and grandkids to shoot. No, they don't get to shoot the Impact, kinda selfish there.

You are so right that equipment can be the limiting factor. I know when I miss with the Impact, it's not the gun. Removes all excuses. Something like the Stormrider is a plinker at best, for one that just wants to hang out and shoot, At $129 it's almost a give-away for a PCP. Like I said, I wouldn't shoot it much, but grandkids might.
