Is there such a thing as a budget Low Power Variable Optic scope?

You probably will have to use a reversed offset mount to get your desired eye relief. I’ll check mine again but I remember the Illuminated reticle is very nice and crisp.

Edit: took a look at my alpha 6 and the reticle does have a slight haze depending on the eye piece adjustment and where the eye is but not something I noticed until I looked for it. With both eyes open I don’t notice it at all. Also the eye relief is more generous than I though especially at 1x.

There is enough room on either side of the turret housing for me to mount the scope over a wide range with regular rings. I would prefer it to have enough eye relief so that the end of the occular could be even with the hinge point but then I have to crane my neck forward to an uncomfortable position. Not a deal breaker and something I knew would likely be the case.

I played with it more last night. Unfortunately I have Meniere's disease (or something like it) which acts up at night and I get blurry vision. I just wasn't able to adjust the fuzz out of the illuminated reticle. I wish I had brought along some of my other illuminated scopes to see if I noticed the same effect.

However, I did play with the scope more before my ear acted up and it really does have good glass for the price range.
