Is RTI a bad thing / company / gun around here ?

LOL RTI is not bad its just you are on a FX site and any thing FX will be posted over any other air gun

Veterans, Uragans Vulcans , are all sold here but its pretty all funded by FX, Its the old my dogs better than your dog thing here, LOL just look it and look at all the repairs and send backs and complaints from FX Even the FX people will tell you there guns have many manyO rings , But there are lots and lots of places to show you how to repair there gun

I think RTI make some nice guns ( from looking at other peoples results as i have never owned / shot one ) the only reason i did not pick up one after waiting 3-4 months for my Maverick was. 1: i already had stud speed loaders for the FX. 2: the price of the prophet performance i feel is a bit high compared to the more sophisticated Maverick i was waiting for. 3: i am a terrible simpleminded guy and i was hellbent on the Maverick ( i am sure i would have been able to offload the stud speed loaders,,,, even locally in little old Denmark )

There can be no doubt they are very nice pellet / slug shooting machines.

PS: i have only owned FX airguns, and i just got the latest one on Monday, and it is working fine too but my next gun if i get one will not be a FX

PPS. It is true there are fanboys, and in many things, that is their problem,,,,, CUZ i dont think it is healthy to be a too big fan of just about anything. You should be able to deal with that, and leave them to their doings.

My opinion about the FX guns, is they about 10-15% over priced for what they are. yes, they push some technology, but by now a lot of it is boiler plate for them and the expensive R&D is over. Now it is the cheaper fine tuning phase, thus right now they are just reaping profits and the capital investment needed to go to next level, at least what we can see as public, isn’t there.

RTI designed the Prophet Compact to be a true compact, the FX M3 / MKII etc are not real compacts, they just have a short barrel, and smaller air bottle, lego.

Only 10-15%? LOL!

So I just picked up a prophet in .30, and although I haven’t scoped and shot it yet, I ran some chrono numbers, shouldered it and tested for leaks and reg creep.

I have to say, the fit and finish of the gun is up to par with other “high end” pcp’s, and it shoulders very well. Cocking was smooth and easy, trigger is VERY nice, and the consistency between shots is impressive. If the accuracy matches the rest, it’s a winner in my book!

I think if more owned the platform, the aftermarket would follow, just like FX, daystate, or other “well known” manufacturers.

@mikevv
I believe it is you that uses the Daystate baffle system in the RTI?

I recall the "discussion" about whether a spring in the shroud system, when compressed, would increase the volume of THAT chamber. Hilarious, of course it does. My baffles, in the RTI Compact, are only washers and spacers and makes a significant change towards 'friendlier'.

Unfortunately my experience went the other way. I got UNLUCKY. My only experience with RTI was with a standard length .22 Prophet performance. To me handling the gun was like handling a box of knives. The gun made great power but the shot cycle was really harsh. Accuracy was O.K. I had issues with the magazine, and the action seemed like it would get grungy and wouldn't work smoothly unless regularly lubricated (like almost as frequently as once per shooting session.)

Now I certainly have had issues with some airguns - be they Daystate, FX or others. But with RTI it was my first gun of the brand which was a poor performer. Maybe I just got a bad gun and the others are golden, but as it was my introduction to the brand I have never gone back.

Just one other point of observation for the O.P. seeking 'General Info.'

From all the comments I have seen on the boards, RTI is very well thought of. Most of the people who have purchased them think they shoot well, and the ones who haven’t liked them didn’t think the fit was for them (must find what is right for you).

I don’t think it is as much that people around here like FX and Daystate more, but when they sell many, many more rifles that the smaller companies, you are going to see more comments. Also, as those two manufacturers have rifles in the hands of big event winners more often than not, people want those rifles, because they think they will be the best for them too.

The ball bearing under the cocking lever required grease + Tri-Flow once and it's quite smooth still after 3000 shots. I don't compare it to my Taipan cocking mechanism because they are completely different animals.

Accuracy is astounding and it's 'tuned' for 14 to 18 grain pellets, doesn't seem to care what you feed it ;)

I don’t think your gun was a “one off” in its issues. It seemed when the prophet hit the market, there were a lot of kinks that weren’t ironed out when they built the rifle. Cocking issues, and reg creep were the biggest issues, then some complained like you do the ergonomics and sharp edges. I’m not sure how long ago you bought one, but mine is completely different. From what info I received from the po, it’s only 3 months old, so that would mean it has all the updated stuff. Cocking effort is great (not necessarily as buttery smooth as my fx’s, but still nice), the reg creep has greatly diminished (to the point my impact was), and the sharp edges seemed to have been chamfered to help with ergonomics. I think they’ve learned their lesson the hard way, and have a bad name from putting out their early stuff to fast (similar to kral in the beginning). They’re still a fairly young company, and I think they’ve come up with something that will stand the test of time, be ver accurate, and with its simplistic nature, easy to work on and repair.
more testing is needed on my end before I decide if I really will keep it, especially in the barrel department. They’ve been known not to shoot slugs accurately, and mine being in .30, I would like that option open for the long range pesting I will be doing with it. Hopefully they’ll offer slug barrels for it soon as they did hint at it the beginning of the year.

Yeah I filed down the exposed edges of the side plates since they are hand shredding sharp when carrying the gun or holding the back for bunch shooting. Lightened the hammer spring for less waisted air since I wasn't shooting heavy pellets/slugs at high speed. Added daystate baffles and short huma moderator to quiet it down. The guys who checked it out and dry fired it didn't even think it was shooting up to speed since it was so quiet. Added an extended rail on the bottom to get the bipod out further. Found a delrin buttpad on ebay to fix the smooth flat stock pad. Had an extra huma bottle reg laying around and added it to help with reg creep. Set to 30 bar over RTI reg. Very steady now and good shot count.
