Is it okay to carry airgun parts from New Jersey Airport?

I need to purchase few airgun parts including a liner for impact, mould and a few internal parts for my airgun. In addition to this, i am also buying a vortex scope.

I will be carrying these from new jersey airport to my home country.

Anyone got any experience with the tsa and new jersey airport officials.

I have previously bought lrf and chrony from jfk. Never had a problem there.

Here is a post from 2010 I dought it has gotten easier.

here is somebody's story:
A friend had a really BIG problem after the last Puyallup Gun Show he went down for. He'd been down and purchased a number of seemingly harmless items, such as plastic pistol grips for AR's and shotguns, spring kits, a couple of laser sight adaptors for handguns, etc. No guns, no major gun parts (barrels etc.), just "nick knacks". When he arrived at the border, he had a list on his dashboard ready to give to Canada Customs to declare all of the above, but never made it across the border. On the US side, they were waiting for him and the "black Ninja's" stopped him, dragged him out of his van, threw him into an interview room, roughed him up a bit, slashed his van seats looking for "guns or cash", then seized everything he'd bought (about $800.00 worth) and sent him back to Canada empty handed. They told him he might be prosecuted for exporting "materials of war" without an export permit or a broker handling his export of these items. They quoted him several US regulations related to their anti-terrorist bill, and he looked them up online when he got home. Sure enough, virtually everything related to firearms is now classed as "materials of war" under their new bill and must have export permits to leave the USA. He's spoken to the prosecutor several times on the phone now, and it appears he's convinced them that he's not a terrorist, didn't mean to break their laws, and won't be charged under US law. They still haven't told him if he'll be allowed to re-enter the USA again though, that's up in the air for now. They're keeping all the seized items though ....

I have heard anecdotes on gun forums of TSA seizing harmless gun-related parts, like a butt stock or pistol grip, claiming other passengers could be bringing more parts to assemble a complete gun. Oh brother.

I think there is no rhyme or reason to it, possibly it is somewhat based on the whim and mood of the particular TSA employee. I would definitely be concerned flying from NJ. They are opnely hostile to gun owners.

Can you ship the parts back to yourself?

I'm not sure you can rely on common sense prevailing in a NJ decision that, in any way, relates to the shooting sports. New Jersey is a beautiful state, and the people are wonderful. But, the politics seem to suppress any semblance of common sense. Well meaning but ill-informed people making bad decisions. Good luck.

I lived there for 25 years before moving to Tennessee. It was not easy to say the least. The people, in most cases, are wonderful, but they are also the same people that determine the politics and part of those politics are the gun laws that are in place.

Anything related to firearms is questionable. I could have been arrested for stopping on the way home from my pistol range to get a quart of milk from a store in my path. I met a police officer I was shooting with, just a half hour before, in the store. He let that one slide.

My friend was caught shooting his air rifle in a very safe, large, back yard. The trooper had some common sense and didn't arrest him although I now own his gun because he can't shoot it anymore and doesn't have a nearby range. Air rifles and many things related to them are considered firearms and firearm accessories. They are viewed the same as a 50 cal. Barrett.

Be careful and maybe clear your way before attempting to fly out with anything.

Best advice, stay OUT of NJ. I've lived here all my life. It's the land of libtards who vote Democrat. If your a gun owner the state of NJ loathes you. They do not respect or even acknowledge the 2nd Amendment. They hate you and want you disarmed. Period. If that means making laws so gray, draconian ,and hard to understand and follow that you get jammed up and arrested, great. That's what these Democrats want. Then your firearms are confiscated. Their goal accomplished. Do yourself a favor. Stay away from NJ. It's bad news all around.
