Is it me, or is it YouTube?

Either I have watched every single Airgun video on YouTube or YouTube has started filtering out my feed of airgun videos. I don’t have my watch history turned on within YouTube so it’s not like they are tracking which ones I watch, at least not openly, Who knows what they really do, right? Has anyone else noticed a sudden decline in available air gun videos on YouTube? Or are the content creators slowing down now because it’s getting colder out and it’s also hunting season?

Probably politics...my wife has health issues so I spend a good amount of time in waiting rooms. Most folks try to use the local wifi to save on data costs. Well I can tell you if you try to acess adult sites your not allowed acess which I fully agree with..However recently if you try to get on to any site with the word GUN in it, the wifi will not allow acess!! Been to a number of different medical facilities an none wikl allow acess to any website with the GUN word in the name. The only way I can acess this and other airgun sites is tovturn off the free wifi and use my devices own data. I would not be surprised to see youtube and others to start restricting anything with the GUN word in the title. Big brother is trying to control what we watch and read, might as well get used to it as we continue to vote these same people back in each election!

Youtube just implemented new policies that take aim at anything remotely related to 2A. Their algorithms are in turbo stupid mode.

I just read their policy, thank you for the link!

I am a software developer, I’ve been writing apps and web apps for 15 years, so I do have a professional understanding of algorithms in general, just…. never worked for google or yt.

There is a pattern in the computer industry known as “converge and diverge,” and it applies to what we are seeing today. Converge and diverge means technologies and user tend to converge and centralize for some time, then disperse. the last decade has been ruled by media giants and phone makers. Before then, it was Microsoft Windows and PCs like Dell, Before then, it was IBM.

Technology companies tend to grow so large, they fail. You can’t please everyone all the time, and when all those people become your customers it becomes impossible to balance new features with customer satisfaction.

Google and Youtube have peaked. Facebook has peaked. Users are now diverging.

I miss the old days of the internet, where it was only on a PC and not in everyone’s hands while taking a poop…. those were the good days.

I must say that I have not seen any decline in the availability of airgun videos on YouTube. All the channels to which I am subscribed still appear regularly and I do get notification if they have an updated video. Similarly, if I search any topic of interest I routinely get more suggestions than I need (or even want sometimes).

Now, i am not a passive viewer of random airgun (or any other) videos. In other words, i do not depend just on a feed. I either search for a specific topic, or I will search generally for something (e.g. FX Impact tuning videos - by the way, be careful what you wish for, since there are probably thousands of those). I subscribe to channels I like and routinely check in on them. I have also, to the extent possible, turned of tracking and similar cookies on all my devices.

For all the hate that YouTube gets, I find it invaluable for just about anything that I am researching or have an interest in. And no, I don’t miss the “old days of the internet, when it was only on e a PC.” I like being able to access YouTube on my phone or tablet when i am away from home, or even at home away from my PC. I like the fact that just about anyone can, and does, upload videos. I have been helped immensely by random people who have uploaded amazing videos just because they can and want to be helpful. I, for one, do not want to go back to a world where information was closely held, or only in print. Where finding out about anything required a trip to the local library, IF you happened to have a good one in your town. Otherwise you had to travel to a University library or big city library.

YMMV

Airshot, use a VPN on your phone and any wifi you are connected to won't be able to block you from anything. On a public wifi, anywhere, they are an essential bit of security and protect all of your communications. Never send, or read, email, or do any banking without encrypting with a VPN.

Thanks for yiur recomendations, but this old antique brain has enough trouble doing basic functions. Dont even know what what a VPN is....due to my lack of computor skills and knowledge, I dont use a computor for anything involving personal or financial information. I enjoy reading about my various hobbies and chatting with other like minded folks, hackers would be wasting their time looking for anything worthwhile on my devices. Now, however you have stirred my curiosity as what this VPN is or does......

NordVPN is a great one and only a couple bucks a month. 👍
