Is anyone making 35 caliber M-rod mags

Based on the rough measurements I took yesterday, there is just enough room to make a .357 mag that will hold 5 pellets.... the Mrod magwell isn't long enough for much more than that. Plus, you really should think about pushing an Mrod bolt that hard anyway..some mods will be needed....not much is keeping that bolt from flying out the rear of the breech....

Darko is on both AGN and GTA, I normally PM him. Google CARM magazines for his website. I am a big fan of his mag design vs typical Mrod mags....

mackeral5,

Chris and I are thinking of a .357 Mrod build but would be using the Russian side lever breech. I agree that one retaining screw on the stock bolt would be a weak link. Hopefully the Russian breech will be sturdy enough, at least the bolt wouldn’t come flying out with a failure. This rifle would be powered by a Cothran Powerhouse valve. What is your opinion of that breeches strength for this application?

Sounds like an interesting project, I look forward to seeing more. Unfortunately I don't have any direct knowledge of the side lever breeches. It would be really cool if the side lever breech was more robust than OEM, and had enough meat to allow for a longer magazine, such as a WAR magazine.. Then you could go with a bit longer/heavier .357 projectile.

I agree about the magazine well being small for slugs but I think Chris just wants to shoot pellets. The pellet mags clear cover can be machined for clearance also. AirgunBuy.com is the manufacturer of that side lever breech, some pretty good pics of it on eBay. George is the guys name and he said he could make a probe and thimble in .357 for his .30 cal breech for me. Chris wants magazine capability before moving forward with the build. It will have the short RAI tube and drop block, JSAR externally adjustable regulator and a 580 cc CF bottle. Probably un shrouded barrel threaded 1/2x20 for a ldc. Use of a thimble will save on some machining.

The breech sounds cool. As a matter of fact, that breech's availability is why I lost interest in my Flexes and traded them off. If an when I want to scratch that itch again I'll just do as y'all are doing and build a side lever Mrod..

I do find it interesting that the breech manufacturer specifies .25 and .30 are only compatible with mags they make. I wonder what the difference is? Is it the mags are the same thickness as .177 and .22? or some other issue? this is the statement about mags. "* .25 and .30 Caliber breeches can only support our magazines that are included."

CARM mags don't use the clear cover, they are a different design. You can find pics of the Mrod .30 mag by searching my posts for "darko .30 mrod mag" either here or GTA...

Sounds like you guys need to start the discussion with Darko....but only after getting clarification about the magazine disclaimer....
